  • Amref Health Africa has received funding from the U.S. Department of State to support the National and County Governments in strengthening Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) preparedness and response across twelve (12) very high-risk counties in Kenya. To support the implementation of this initiative, Amref seeks to recruit a Data Clerk who will provide accurate and timely data entry, compilation, and management support to the project’s monitoring and evaluation function.
  • The project is expected to run for an initial period of three (3) months, ending in September 2026, with the possibility of extension depending on the evolving EVD situation and response needs.
  • The Data Clerk will support the day-to-day collection, entry, cleaning, and filing of project data in line with the project’s monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) requirements. Reporting to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, the incumbent will ensure that data from field activities is captured accurately and on time, properly stored, and readily available to support reporting and decision-making.

Data Entry and Compilation

  • Accurately enter project data from field activities, registers, and tools into databases, spreadsheets, and electronic data collection platforms (e.g. ODK, KoboCollect).
  • Compile and collate data from health facilities, sub-county teams, and community activities on a routine basis.
  • Support the timely capture of project indicators into relevant systems, including DHIS2, as guided.
  • Retrieve and prepare data and summaries as requested to support reporting needs.

Data Cleaning and Quality Assurance

  • Review entered data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, and correct errors or omissions.
  • Cross-check source documents against entered records to ensure data integrity.
  • Flag data gaps, discrepancies, and quality issues to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
  • Support routine data verification and data quality assessment exercises.

Records Management and Filing

  • Maintain an organised, secure, and up-to-date filing system for both physical and electronic project records.
  • Ensure safe storage, back-up, and confidentiality of project data in line with data protection standards.
  • Track and account for data collection tools, registers, and source documents.

Reporting Support

  • Prepare basic tables, summaries, and data extracts to support weekly, monthly, and activity reports.
  • Support the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in preparing data for reviews, dashboards, and donor reports.
  • Assist in documenting field data collection processes and challenges.

General

  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to support effective data management and project implementation.

Education

  • Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology, Statistics, Information Technology, Data Management, Community Health, or a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or training in monitoring and evaluation or data management is an added advantage.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in data entry, data management, or records management, preferably in a health or development programme.
  • Experience working with health facility data, registers, and health information systems is an added advantage.
  • Experience supporting outbreak response, emergency, or community health programmes is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in accurate, high-volume data entry and basic data compilation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and data entry applications.
  • Familiarity with electronic data collection tools (e.g. ODK, KoboCollect) and health information systems such as DHIS2.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and speed in data entry.
  • Good understanding of data confidentiality, integrity, and protection principles.
  • Good organisational, record-keeping, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.

Working Environment/Conditions

  • County-based in an assigned high-risk EVD county.
  • With travel and support to health facilities and field sites within the assigned county.
