Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Crane Inspector to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

  • Conduct periodic inspections, testing, and certification of cranes and hoisting equipment to ensure compliance with applicable safety and operational standards.
  • Perform load testing and performance assessments on cranes and lifting devices, ensuring proper operation and adherence to manufacturer and regulatory specifications.
  • Document all inspections and certification activities, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely submission of reports to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Perform visual and operational inspections for wear, damage, or deficiencies on structural components, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and safety devices.
  • Apply knowledge of industry standards, including ASME B30, OSHA regulations, and Navy crane requirements during inspections and assessments.
  • Advise maintenance and operations teams on corrective actions required for non-compliant or unsafe equipment.
  • Inspect new cranes and lifting equipment upon delivery or after repairs/modifications to ensure operational readiness and compliance with standards.
  • Conduct daily, monthly, and annual inspections according to prescribed schedules, procedures, and checklists.
  • Provide testing and oversight of rigging operations and certify rigging and lifting hardware following applicable standards.
  • Ensure all inspection tools and equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and fit for use.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, operators, and safety professionals to resolve crane operation issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Educate personnel regarding safe crane operations and compliance with Navy and international safety requirements.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in crane inspections, heavy equipment assessments, or related fields.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crane operation, maintenance, and inspection requirements for mobile, overhead, and tower cranes.
  • Familiarity with standards such as OSHA, ASME B30, NAVFAC P-307, and other applicable guidelines.
  • Ability to conduct detailed inspections for structural, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components on cranes.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
  • Valid country driver’s license and passport.
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
  • Certification as a Crane Inspector through an accredited program (e.g., CIC, NCCCO, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Navy cranes and hoisting equipment, following NAVFAC P-307 or similar frameworks.
  • Technical expertise in rigging inspection and the certification of slings, shackles, and other lifting devices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve crane operation issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail and report writing skills.
