Country Manager role in Nairobi, leading sales and market expansion for agricultural irrigation technologies. Their innovative irrigation products empower smallholder farmers to increase productivity, generate income, and build resilient livelihoods.

They are seeking an exceptional Country Manager – Kenya to lead and accelerate their growth in one of their most strategic markets. This is a high-impact leadership role for a commercially driven professional who is passionate about agriculture, rural development, and building high-performing sales organizations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales growth, leading a results-oriented sales team, expanding market presence, strengthening strategic partnerships, and ensuring the achievement of ambitious business and social impact targets across Kenya.

The Country Manager will provide overall leadership for the company’s operations in Kenya, with primary accountability for sales growth, market expansion, and achievement of country Sales and impact targets.

As the team leader of the Kenya Program, the Country Manager will develop and execute winning sales strategies, build and lead a high-performing sales team, strengthen distribution networks, and establish strategic partnerships that drive adoption of the company’s irrigation technologies among smallholder farmers.

This role combines strategic leadership, sales management, business development, partner engagement, operational oversight, and team development to ensure sustainable growth and measurable social impact.

Sales Leadership & Program Growth (Core Priority)

Lead the Kenya program with a relentless focus on achieving and exceeding sales targets.

Key Deliverables

  • Develop and execute country-wide sales strategies that drive sustainable program growth.
  • Establish annual, quarterly, and monthly sales targets and ensure achievement across all regions.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and motivate a high-performing sales team to consistently deliver results.
  • Build a strong performance culture driven by accountability, customer focus, and execution excellence.
  • Monitor sales performance through regular reviews, field visits, coaching sessions, and data-driven decision making.
  • Develop market penetration strategies to increase market share and customer acquisition.
  • Expand product adoption among smallholder farmers through effective sales and promotional activities.
  • Ensure accurate sales forecasting and pipeline management.
  • Champion CRM utilization and sales process discipline across the sales organization.
  • Drive customer retention, repeat purchases, and distributor growth.

Distribution & Market Development

  • Conduct regular market assessments to identify opportunities, emerging trends, and underserved regions.
  • Develop and implement regional market development plans.
  • Build, strengthen, and manage an effective distributor and dealer network across Kenya.
  • Ensure distributors are appropriately selected, trained, supported, and performance-managed.
  • Improve product availability and accessibility in key agricultural markets.
  • Develop innovative go-to-market strategies that increase customer reach and market penetration.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Create a high-performance culture centered on accountability, collaboration, integrity, and results.
  • Establish clear performance objectives and development plans for team members.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and leadership support.
  • Foster teamwork and alignment across all country operations.

Strategic Partnerships & Business Development

  • Develop and manage strategic relationships
  • Identify and secure partnership opportunities that accelerate product adoption and market growth.
  • Negotiate and manage commercial and development partnerships.
  • Represent the company at industry forums, stakeholder engagements, and strategic meetings.
  • Build partnerships that contribute to both sales success and social impact objectives.

Program Planning & Operational Excellence

  • Develop and execute annual and long-term country program plans.
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective utilization of organizational resources.
  • Manage country budgets and financial performance.
  • Deliver accurate monthly forecasts, reports, and program performance updates.
  • Ensure efficient operational support for country promotional activities.
  • Lead risk identification and mitigation initiatives.

Monitoring, Impact & Reporting

  • Track and report sales performance, market growth, and social impact indicators.
  • Oversee collection and analysis of end-user and partner/customer data.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and actionable reports to regional leadership.
  • Use market intelligence and performance analytics to guide program decisions.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
  • Promote adherence to the company policies, values, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and sound program practices.
  • Manage organizational risk and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Agriculture, Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field.
  • MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive sales and business leadership experience, preferably within agriculture, agribusiness, FMCG, rural distribution, development enterprises, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and scaling high-performing sales teams.
  • Proven experience achieving and exceeding aggressive sales and growth targets.
  • Experience managing distributors, channel partners, or dealer networks.
  • Strong commercial, business development, and partnership management experience.
  • Experience managing budgets and business performance.
  • Exposure to both private sector and development-sector engagement is an advantage.

Travel Requirements

This position requires extensive travel within Kenya. Candidates should be willing to spend up to 60% of their time in the field, engaging with customers, distributors, partners, and team members.
