Country HR Manager Job (500-550K)
Reports to: Group Chief HR Officer, Dotted line to the Country Manager,
Direct Reports: HR Specialist, Human Resource Officer, Community Relations Officer, Facility Officer, Admin Assistant, Front Desk Officer,
Our client is a leading manufacturing company of a range of premium quality aluminium beverage cans. They are looking to hire an experienced Country Human Resources Manager to provide strategic leadership of the people function, ensuring the effective delivery of HR and administrative services. The role is responsible for implementing HR policies and programmes, fostering a positive organizational culture aligned with the group’s values, supporting staff through efficient administrative services, and maintaining healthy community and industrial relations. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the company’s human resources, promoting employee engagement, and creating a conducive work environment that enables staff to perform at their optimal capacity.
Roles and Responsibilities
HR Operations
- Supports the development of the company’s HR strategy by identifying and researching Human Resources issues. Implements and monitors the effectiveness of the company’s HR Strategy and ensures localisation where applicable.
- Ensures the effective implementation of group-aligned HR procedures and policies. This includes policies relating to Recruitment and Selection, Compensation, Performance Management, Training and Development, Employee Welfare, Succession Planning, Retention, Labour Relations, etc.
- Manages operational HR activities relating to Employee Engagement, Succession Planning, Performance Management, Compensation, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), and related functions.
- Supports the development of the HR budget by providing relevant HR data and forecasts, and aids in the financial planning of the department.
- Assists the Group Chief Human Resources Officer (GCHRO) and Country Manager (CM) in overseeing grievance handling and disciplinary procedures within the company.
Talent Management
- Provides support to the Talent Management Manager in carrying out Talent Management activities and processes within the company. This includes Talent Acquisition, Orientation, Training and Development, Performance Management, and related people management initiatives.
Compensation and Benefits
- Designs, implements, and maintains a compensation structure that promotes equity and internal compensation parity for all employees.
- Designs and implements a compensation and rewards framework that provides a competitive advantage for the company and supports employee retention.
- Conducts periodic employee cost forecasting and annual budget management to ensure cost efficiency.
- Implements and maintains Group Life and Medical Schemes and ensures compliance with relevant insurance regulations.
- Ensures the prompt resolution of issues relating to employee compensation and benefits.
- Coordinates the management of employee tax, PAYE, and pension matters.
Employee Relations and Welfare
- Keeps employees informed of key organizational issues, HR policies, and procedures.
- Coordinates grievance handling and disciplinary procedures within the company.
- Coordinates expatriate management and ensures compliance with immigration requirements.
- Manages employee and employer relations issues to minimize legal risks and disputes.
- Oversees the resolution of disciplinary and grievance matters.
- Implements effective conflict management processes and promotes a positive work environment.
Industrial Relations
- Ensures the company’s HR and people management practices comply with all applicable local legislation.
- Engages regularly with union representatives and facilitates the resolution of union-related issues.
- Liaises with relevant government agencies as required.
- Maintains a healthy industrial relations environment.
Health, Safety and Environment
- Supervises the activities of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department.
- Promotes a strong HSE culture through employee training, awareness, and sensitization programs.
Community Relations
- Assists the GCHRO and CM in maintaining positive relationships between the company and its host communities.
- Supports the prompt resolution of community concerns and issues.
- Maintains a peaceful, safe, and secure operating environment for the company.
Facilities Management
- Ensures the effective management of the company’s facilities, utilities, office buildings, guest houses, and office equipment.
People Management
- Supervises team members and ensures work quality meets performance expectations.
- Assigns tasks and responsibilities to the Human Resources team to ensure efficient workflow.
- Reviews and monitors work carried out by team members to ensure effectiveness and compliance with standards.
Integrated Management System
- Documents, implements and maintains the requirements of the Quality, Food Safety, Environment, Health and Safety management systems.
Leadership
- Is an effective member of the local company Executive Committee (Exco) and helps drive decisions that ensure delivery of business objectives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of HND or First Degree in Human Resources or a related social science discipline.
- Relevant certification from a reputable professional institution e.g. CIPM, CIPD, SHRM.
- An MBA or a Master’s in a relevant discipline would be an added advantage.
- At least 15 years post-qualification experience, 4 of which must have been spent in a management position within the manufacturing industry.
- Members of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) and possession of a valid practicing certificate.
- Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K) qualification will be an added advantage
- Strong track record in HR generalist and change management roles.
- A good grasp of end-to-end talent and employee life cycle management.
- Thorough working knowledge of the Kenyan Labour Law and Industrial Relations environment.
- Experience working with startups will be an added advantage
