Commercial Operations & Cost Control Lead Job (60-70K)
Location: Kisaju, Kenya,

Our client offers a wide range of products including kitchen units, wardrobes, dressing table, dining tables, wall units, and office furniture. They are seeking a highly experienced and commercially driven Commercial Operations & Cost Control Lead to oversee all costing, estimating, procurement support, commercial administration, inventory control, and profitability management activities across Furniture Manufacturing and Aluminium Fabrication divisions.
This strategic role is responsible for ensuring accurate pricing, effective cost control, optimized material utilization, and improved business profitability while supporting operational excellence across factory production, projects, and warehouse operations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving commercial performance, strengthening cost management systems, and providing management with actionable financial and operational insights.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management & Cost Control
- Lead all commercial and cost control activities across manufacturing and project operations.
- Develop and implement cost management strategies to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Monitor budgets, production costs, and project expenditures.
- Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare profitability, margin, and performance reports for management review.
- Support business planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
Costing & Estimating
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations for furniture manufacturing and aluminium fabrication projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and client requirements to determine project costs.
- Develop Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost plans, and detailed pricing breakdowns.
- Establish and maintain pricing models for products and projects.
- Support tender preparation and commercial submissions.
Procurement & Supplier Cost Management
- Review supplier quotations and conduct comparative cost analyses.
- Support supplier negotiations to secure competitive pricing and favorable commercial terms.
- Monitor market trends and pricing for key materials including aluminium, glass, timber, MDF, hardware, fittings, and accessories.
- Contribute to supplier evaluation and cost optimization initiatives.
- Work closely with procurement teams to achieve purchasing efficiencies.
Factory Operations & Production Costing
- Develop and maintain standard costing structures for manufactured products.
- Monitor material consumption, labor productivity, and production efficiency.
- Analyze production costs and identify opportunities to reduce wastage and improve margins.
- Collaborate with production teams to enhance operational performance and cost effectiveness.
- Track manufacturing cost per unit and production performance metrics.
Warehouse & Inventory Control
- Monitor inventory levels and material movement across warehouses and production facilities.
- Support stock valuation, reconciliation, and inventory reporting processes.
- Investigate inventory variances, losses, and wastage.
- Participate in stock counts, audits, and inventory control initiatives.
- Ensure effective material utilization and inventory accuracy.
Contracts & Commercial Administration
- Review contracts, purchase orders, and commercial agreements.
- Manage variation orders, additional works, and pricing adjustments.
- Support payment applications, invoicing, and commercial documentation.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and internal commercial procedures.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation.
Reporting & Business Performance
- Prepare weekly and monthly commercial, operational, and financial reports.
- Provide management with insights on profitability, margins, cost trends, and operational performance.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards for decision-making.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as RICS, CIPS, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in commercial management, quantity surveying, costing, procurement, manufacturing operations, or related fields.
- Proven experience within furniture manufacturing, aluminium fabrication, interior fit-out, construction manufacturing, or similar production-based industries.
- Strong exposure to factory operations, inventory management, and cost control environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing profitability, procurement, costing, and commercial administration functions.
- Advanced costing, estimating, and pricing expertise.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen.
- In-depth understanding of manufacturing and production processes.
- Excellent procurement and supplier management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
- Knowledge of inventory control and warehouse operations.
- Strong negotiation, reporting, and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and results-oriented mindset.
