Summary:

Our client is a continental leadership, training, consultancy and digital solutions institution working with professionals and organisations across Africa. They are looking to hire a Business Development Officer – Software Sales who will be responsible for identifying, engaging and converting institutional clients for software and digital solutions. The role involves building a strong sales pipeline, conducting software demonstrations, preparing commercial proposals, supporting contract negotiations, coordinating client onboarding and maintaining strong relationships with clients after purchase. It involves understanding client needs, mapping solutions to institutional problems, supporting adoption, managing expectations and ensuring that clients receive value after implementation.

Business Development and Market Growth

  • Identify and pursue software sales opportunities among NGOs, government agencies, development partners, corporates, educational institutions, public sector organisations and other institutional clients across Africa.

Enterprise Software Sales

  • Lead the full enterprise software sales process, including client engagement, tailored pitches, product demonstrations, proposal support, negotiation and deal closure.

Client Needs Assessment and Solution Positioning

  • Engage prospective clients to understand their operational challenges and position the institution’s software solutions as practical tools for improving efficiency, accountability, reporting, decision-making and service delivery.

Product Demonstrations and Presentations

  • Prepare and deliver professional software demonstrations and presentations that clearly show how the solutions address real institutional problems.

Proposals, Negotiations and Contract Support

  • Prepare and support commercial proposals, quotations, tender responses and negotiations while ensuring clear understanding of licensing, implementation timelines, payment milestones, SLAs, support terms and client responsibilities.

Client Onboarding and Account Management

  • Support smooth client onboarding, coordinate with internal teams, maintain client relationships, identify renewal and upselling opportunities and collect feedback for continuous product improvement.

Partnerships and Continental Expansion

  • Identify partners, resellers, institutional champions and country-level networks that can support the expansion of the institution’s digital solutions across Africa.
  • A degree/Diploma in Business, Marketing, IT, Sales, Entrepreneurship, Management or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience selling software, SaaS products, digital platforms, ERP systems, MIS systems, CRM systems, learning platforms, data systems or similar technology solutions to organisations.
  • Practical knowledge of the full software sales process, including lead generation, client qualification, institutional buying processes, procurement requirements, product demos, proposal development, negotiation, contracting, onboarding, after-sales support and client retention.
  • Strong understanding of software sales models, including Software as a Service, annual and monthly subscriptions, user licensing, renewals, upgrades and long-term client account management.
  • Good understanding of implementation planning, client onboarding, user training, system adoption challenges, customer support processes and service level agreements.
  • Ability to understand client problems, position software solutions clearly and explain how digital tools can improve efficiency, accountability, reporting, decision-making and service delivery.
  • Proven ability to engage senior decision-makers, conduct professional software demonstrations, prepare compelling proposals and close institutional deals.
  • Good understanding of data protection, confidentiality, client responsibilities, support terms and how to manage client expectations during and after implementation.
  • Experience working with technical teams, product teams and client success teams to ensure that sales commitments are realistic and properly delivered.
  • Ability to prepare sales forecasts, manage a sales pipeline, track prospects, handle objections and follow up consistently until deals are closed.
  • Strong commercial awareness, confidence, persistence, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage long institutional sales cycles.
  • Experience selling to NGOs, government institutions, donor-funded programmes, corporates, education institutions or public sector agencies will be an added advantage.
  • High levels of organisation, self-drive, professionalism, target orientation and comfort with technology.
  • Ability to work independently, represent the institution’s professionally and support business growth across different African markets.
  • Continental travel may be required as business opportunities grow
