Position: Assistant Manager- Credit Risk Analysis

Job Summary

To provide leadership and oversight of the Credit Risk Analysis function through effective appraisal, structuring, and recommendation of credit facilities while ensuring compliance with the Bank’s credit policies, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite. The role is responsible for supervising Credit Risk Analysts, enhancing credit quality, supporting business growth, and providing management with quality credit risk insights for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Analysis and Appraisal

  • Review, analyze, and recommend credit applications for retail, SME, commercial, and corporate customers in line with the Bank’s credit policy and risk appetite.
  • Evaluate customers’ creditworthiness, repayment capacity, cash flows, collateral adequacy, and overall risk profile.
  • Review and approve credit proposals prepared by Credit Risk Officers and provide guidance on complex credit structures.
  • Ensure all credit applications comply with internal policies, CBK Prudential Guidelines, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support business units in structuring credit facilities that adequately mitigate risk while meeting customer needs.

Portfolio Quality Management

  • Monitor quality of approved credits and provide recommendations aimed at improving portfolio quality and minimizing future defaults.
  • Participate in post-disbursement monitoring visits and portfolio reviews.
  • Analyze portfolio trends, emerging risks, industry developments, and sector performance and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Support formulation and implementation of strategies aimed at improving PAR, collections performance, and overall asset quality.

Reporting and Management Information

  • Prepare and review periodic credit risk reports for Management, EXCOM, Board Committees, CBK, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyze portfolio performance and provide insights and recommendations on risk exposures and concentration risks.
  • Prepare presentations and management reports relating to credit risk performance and emerging portfolio concerns.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with Branch Managers, Business Teams, Credit Administration, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, and other departments on credit-related matters.
  • Participate in management meetings and provide expert guidance on credit risk matters.
  • Support regulatory examinations, audits, and reviews relating to credit risk management.

Leadership and People Management

  • Supervise, mentor, coach, and develop Credit Risk Officers and Analysts.
  • Allocate work, monitor productivity, and ensure timely completion of credit appraisals.
  • Conduct performance reviews and identify training and development needs for team members.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the Credit Risk team.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Management from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, AKIB, CFA, FRM, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in Credit Risk Analysis, Credit Management, Banking Operations, or a related field. At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
