This is a full-time on-site role for an Intern Agriculture Extension Officer located in Oyugis. The Intern Agriculture Extension Officer will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of agricultural programs, conducting soil and crop management research, providing education and training to farmers, and assisting in livestock management. The intern will work closely with local farmers to provide guidance and support to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.

  • Educate farmers on modern farming techniques, crop management, soil health, pest control, and sustainable practices.
  • Organize and conduct training sessions and field demonstrations on various agricultural topics.
  • Conduct on-site farm visits to assess practices and provide personalized recommendations to farmers in selecting suitable crops, seeds, fertilizers, irrigation techniques, and efficient use of resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of agricultural projects and the impact of extension services.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records of activities, outcomes, and farmer interactions.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to management on program outcomes and challenges.
  • Collaborate with local governments, NGOs, research institutions, and agribusinesses to support agricultural initiatives.
  • Facilitate access to financial services, market linkages, and other resources for farmers.
  • Conduct regular field visits to farms to identify issues, provide solutions, and track progress.
  • Offer one-on-one technical advice and mentorship to farmers.
  • Ensure farmers are aware of and comply with agricultural policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Assist farmers in accessing government subsidies, grants, and technical support services.
  • Collect and analyze agricultural data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest agricultural research and technologies to disseminate to the farming community.
  • Assist farmers in adopting environmental conservation, climate-smart agriculture, and food safety practices.
  • Collaborate with farmers to develop and implement effective pest management, soil conservation, and irrigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with local agricultural agencies and educational institutions to foster knowledge exchange and partnerships.
  • Knowledge of Soil Science and Agriculture
  • Interest or experience in Curriculum Development and Education
  • Familiarity with Livestock management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Extension Education, or related field preferred
