SALARY SCALE: CPSB 09 Ksh. 41,420 х 1,470 – 42,890 х 1,520 – 44,410 х 1,710 – 46,120 х 1,920 – 48,040 х 2,000 – 50,040 х 2,290 – 52,330 х 2,350 – 54,680 х 2,550 – 57,230 pm.

Duties and Responsibilities

This will be the entry and training grade for this cadre. The officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more senior officer.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:- capturing patient’s bio data; taking history of patients; obtaining patient informed consent before offering any treatment; undertaking glazing and fitting of spectacles; diagnosing and treating eye patients; detecting patients with low vision and binocular vision anomaly; prescribing pharmacological therapy to treat ocular diseases and injury; reviewing and following up on patients treatment and progress; undertaking investigations to make further patient diagnosis; developing and implementing patient treatment plan; referring and receiving patients appropriately; creating awareness on eye health and care; prescribing soft contact lenses; dispensing soft contact lenses; compiling research data; updating information on ophthalmic/optical equipment and appliances; updating inventory in the optical shop; and preparing reports.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: – Optometry, Optometry and Vision Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Certificate in computer application skills;
• Registration with the relevant regulatory body; and
• Valid Practicing Licence.
