How CSS Came Through When I Lost My Job!

Looking for a job when you have been terminated is not easy, especially when you don’t know when you will get the job that you are suitable for or when the employers will invite you for an interview.

Ezra Nyakundi lost his job through redundancy when the company he worked for was shut down and most

employees lost their jobs.

Through search engines, Ezra came across the role of Wholesale Officer we had advertised for our client Mwingi Kenya Ltd.

After applying, he was subjected to two interviews as CSS and at the client stage and he stood out from other applicants.

Tell us about yourself.

I am Ezra Nyakundi, a highly experienced individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, interested in the position of administrative clerk.  I have over seven years of experience in retail & wholesale companies.

How long had you been looking for a job?

I had been looking for a job for two months when I lost my job.

What has your job search experience been like?

After my former employer decided to shut down the business where I was working, all of the staff were terminated and that is when I began looking for a job, something which was not easy.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Yes, I used many ways to kill a rat by using various job boards but surprisingly, some were unrealistic because they would ask for money to help me secure the job but thanks to CSS because the process was free and transparent.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I learned about the Corporate Staffing website through a Google search, where I submitted my CV and that is when I came across the role of Wholesale Officer. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a job to check the website and social media platforms.

How was the application and interview process?

The process was swift. One week after applying for a job, I received a call that I had been shortlisted. Three days later, I was scheduled for a virtual interview with CSS and a physical interview with the client four days later.

Did you think you would get the job? Please give a reason.

Yes, I believed that I had a high chance since I met the requirements that the employer was looking for.

What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?

First, the employers check if you are qualified for the role, if you possess the relevant skills, and if you are adaptable to learn and the impact you will bring to the organization.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs in this competitive job market. What is your advice to them?

My advice is to keep on despite the rejections after applying for many jobs. Be optimistic and work towards achieving your goals.

What do you think is the secret to getting a job in this competitive market?

The secret is to understand that the job market is competitive, many other job seekers are competing for the same jobs but you need to identify what makes you unique for you to stand out in a pool of many applicants.

Be focused in whatever you do, have a positive mind, and make use of every opportunity to grow and prepare yourself for success.
