CV Guide: 3 Ways to Sell Yourself Professionally!

I used to apply for many jobs without success but I didn’t know that it was underselling me. I had relevant skills and experience but I didn’t know how to present well. In the process of seeking help, I met Eliz, a professional CV writer at CSS who reviewed it and gave me a curriculum vitae guide to writing a perfect one. One mistake that I had been making all along was the failure to market myself well because I didn’t explain how my skills and experience fit a certain role and that was the reason why I was not getting interviews.

For employers to notice you, it is important to connect with their needs and position yourself for the job to avoid missing the marketing opportunity.

The key to blowing your own trumpet is to aim at the sweet spot by highlighting relevant skills, required experience, and achievements and presenting them in the best light.

Here are 3 ways Eliz gave me to sell myself professionally with my CV

1. Show Your Impact And What You Can Deliver

I never knew the importance of showcasing achievements on my CV despite having numerous accomplishments in my previous roles.

“The employers use your past performance to measure your future potential hence it is important to illustrate your ability to solve problems and bring value to a company,” Eliz said.

The first CV step that leads to success is to research more information about the role, the employer, and the trends in the industry for you to have a clear idea of the relevant examples.

Allow your actions to do the talking because your previous efforts act as a reflection of what you can deliver if offered the role.

2. Use Persuasive Language

The language that you use when writing your resume determines if the employer will keep reading through it or if it will be placed in a no pile.

Use persuasive language when outlining your responsibilities and achievements. Powerful words in your career history engage potential employers and make them want to know more about you.

When you follow the right CV procedure and connect with the employer’s needs, you make the employer understand your value and increase your chances of moving on to the next step in the hiring process.

3. Make Use Of The Keywords

Heard of the electronic systems used to filter the candidates during the screening process? For your CV to pass through the system, it should contain the relevant keywords.

A successful guide to resume keywords is to analyze the job you are applying for, other jobs with related titles, and the industry language.

Using the keywords shows that you understand the industry and prove to the employer that you match the requirements.

Being a digital marketer, some of the keywords that I should have included on my curriculum vitae were search engine marketing, web analytics, content management system, and customer relationship management but since they were not there, it was difficult to pass the ATS system.

To Wrap Up

A CV is the first point of contact and for you to shine, it is important to market yourself using your skills, and experience to increase the chances of being shortlisted.
