Sample Career Objective For Administrative Assistant

Apart from Work Experience and qualifications, the career objective in your CV is also very important to employers as it defines who you are and what you are looking for. It is the section that tells recruiters and employers of your intentions and motivation for the job you are applying for and also counts during the selection process.

So, how good is your career objective? Does it communicate your skill set and tell more about you as an individual or is it bouncy and needing to be revamped? According to Melody Mwendwa, a CV Writing expert and Interview coach at Corporate Staffing Services, a good career objective should be brief and to the point in regards to the job. It should also be not more than 30 words.

Why Do You Need A Career Objective?

In a previous article we published some time last year, we looked at what the best career objective should include. Employers use your career objective to identify whether what you are looking for in your career is in line with what the job wants. For example, your career objective could say that you seek an opportunity with a top company or NGO, yet the job you are applying for is in a Startup company or SME. In such a situation, the most probable outcome is you will not even get to the interview stage.

For this reason, it is important to note that just as you customize a Cover letter to meet the needs of a particular job, so must you do for your career objective. It should be detailed with specific industry information so employers and recruiters are able to relate with you directly and want to talk to you in person (otherwise known as an interview).

Sample Career Objective For Administrative Assistant

Whether applying at entry level or as an experienced professional in the Admin sector, here are two sample career objectives that you can tweak to suit your needs and qualifications.

Entry Level: A self driven and devoted Business Administration graduate seeking an Administrative Assistant position in the Advertising industry, where I can leverage my education and acquire new skills.

Experienced professionals: An accomplished professional with over 3 years experience in Company Administration looking to leverage my proven organizational and management skills in the role of Admin Assistant in the Manufacturing industry.

These two samples above are just but a guide to what you can include in your career objective to express your interest in the current position. You can also tweak it to be more specific to the company you are applying the job for instead of just writing the industry. Doing this would interest any employer to meet you at the interview stage.
