Do you share her sentiments? That is understandable. Most people do not even understand how recruitment firms operate in the first place. It is important to note that not all recruitment agencies are genuine. Some are just out to con people.

“Job seekers need to be realistic in their job search;with the current job market,the opportunities are less than the candidates. They also have to know that there is a difference between a bureau and a recruitment firm. Firms have contracts with the hiring companies and do not charge while bureaus do the opposite,”says Muthoni Ndegwa, a recruitment Manager at Corporate Staffing Services.

How do you identify a genuine recruitment firm?

1. You will not be asked for any money

Since the firms have contracts with the hiring companies, their job is usually to just shortlist candidates and interview them. They do not at any point require the job seeker to part with any cash.

If a recruitment firm asks you for money in order to secure a job, your sixth sense should tell you to leave and never return.

2. They will not over promise you

No recruitment firm can definitely and without a doubt offer you a job. There is no guarantee for employment. Finding the right job for you will take a lot of time and effort.

Any recruitment firm that oversells its services to you will have to back it up with concrete proof of people who have actually benefited from their services.

3. They should have credible references

Let’s face it,if a recruitment firm is genuine, it will have a long list of references. These are people who can vouch for them and truly give an account of their successes.

Have you ever been to that recruitment firm that you have never heard of and you just bumped into a flyer or ad? Do a lot of research before opting to enlist their services.

As a job seeker, you should always remember that there are people out there who are looking to use your desperation to con you. They will entice you and then rob you blind.
