Job Purpose

To provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to infants, children, and adolescents. The core purpose is to diagnose, treat, and manage acute/chronic pediatric illnesses, ensure optimal growth and development, and implement preventive measures in line with Ministry of Health guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: Provide daily diagnosis and treatment for pediatric and neonate patients, including in the Outpatient Department (OPD), Pediatric Ward, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
• Emergency Care: Resuscitate and manage critically ill children and newborns.
• Ward Rounds: Conduct daily ward rounds, documenting patient progress, and coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams.
• Procedures: Perform routine pediatric procedures (lumbar puncture, cannulation, etc.).
• Referrals/Admissions: Manage patient admissions and referrals to sub-specialists.
• Reporting & Compliance: Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records and adhere to Ministry of Health (MoH) treatment protocols.
• Mentorship: Supervise medical interns and clinical officer students on rotation.
• Preventive Services: Offer nutritional counseling, growth monitoring, and immunization services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
• Valid license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in a busy hospital setting.
• Certifications: Valid ACLS, BLS, and/or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification is highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong diagnostic skills and familiarity with national pediatric treatment guidelines.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team.
• Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office/hospital information systems).
