Laboratory Technologist – Kisumu Job KEMRI

Key Responsibilities:
- Accurate and timely performing of study specific assays
- Perform laboratory tests, including HIV testing, diagnostic assays, and study-specific assays as per protocol.
- Collect nasal swab specimens from participants.
- Prepare, process, and store participant specimens, ensuring accuracy, custody, and archival as required.
- Run and log specimen controls in line with SOP requirements.
- Ensure proper laboratory waste segregation and management.
- Maintain and update laboratory inventory, including consumables and reagents.
- Develop, review, and implement laboratory SOPs, specimen flow charts, and related documents in compliance with the study protocol.
- Ensure compliance with all SOPs, GCLP standards, and laboratory safety and infection control protocols, Receive, download, transcribe, and report external laboratory results according to the lab results communication SOP.
- Participate in and pass all required proficiency testing and external quality assessments (EQAs).
- Support supervised sample shipment procedures and ensure IATA certification compliance.
- Update and maintain the laboratory specimen database, ensuring quality assurance of data, by providing accurate, timely laboratory results and ensuring data integrity.
- Participate in quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities to uphold laboratory standards and Serve as the QA/QC point person at the laboratory level

Vacancy Requirements:
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized training institution Mandatory
- Registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) with current practicing license Mandatory
- Proficiency in infant phlebotomy Mandatory
- Experience in clinical trials Mandatory
- Trained on Good clinical laboratory practice –GCL Mandatory
