We are seeking a Senior Consultant – Climate and Sustainable Finance to support the design and delivery of advisory engagements across Kenya and the wider East Market Area (EMA).

The role will focus on supporting governments, international NGOs, development partners, financial institutions, multilateral institutions, and private sector actors to design, implement, and track climate and sustainable finance programmes and investment initiatives.

The successful candidate will support assignments that help clients move from strategy and concept development through to financing alignment, implementation support, monitoring, and impact reporting. This role is suited to a professional with grounding in climate finance, sustainable finance, development finance, investment analysis, and project preparation, and with the ability to work across policy, programme, and transaction-related assignments.

Key Responsibilities

Climate and Sustainable Finance Strategy and Advisory

  • Support clients to design and strengthen climate and sustainable finance strategies, financing frameworks, green investment approaches, and capital mobilisation roadmaps.
  • Contribute to the development of financing approaches for climate mitigation, adaptation, resilience, and broader sustainable development priorities.
  • Advise clients on financing mechanisms, institutional arrangements, governance models, and accountability approaches that improve the effectiveness, transparency, and impact of climate and sustainable finance.
  • Support alignment of financing strategies with national priorities, climate commitments, donor objectives, investor expectations, and sustainable development outcomes.
  • Support the identification of practical implementation pathways that translate strategic priorities into investable programmes and projects, including appropriate financing, delivery, and institutional arrangements.

Blended Finance

  • Support the design of blended finance structures, investment vehicles, and capital mobilisation approaches that crowd in private capital alongside public and concessional funding.
  • Contribute to advisory assignments involving fund structuring, catalytic finance, guarantees, concessional financing, viability gap funding, and other de-risking instruments.
  • Support analysis of financing gaps, capital needs, fund design considerations, and investor participation models for climate and sustainable investment programmes and facilities.
  • Assist clients in identifying and assessing suitable financing partners, instruments, and structuring options for climate and sustainable investments.

Project Preparation and Investment Readiness

  • Support Project Preparation Facilities (PPFs) and related initiatives aimed at developing bankable climate and sustainable investment projects.
  • Work with clients to identify, screen, and prioritise projects for preparation and financing support.
  • Contribute to the preparation of concept notes, investment briefs, financing cases, feasibility inputs, market assessments, and project preparation materials.
  • Support governments and other clients to strengthen project pipelines and move projects from early-stage concepts to investment-ready opportunities.
  • Contribute to assessments of project bankability, implementation pathways, financing structures, and capital mobilisation options.

Results, Impact, and Accountability

  • Support the development of methods and systems for tracking, reporting, and validating the use and impact of climate and sustainable finance resources.
  • Contribute to results-based management, accountability, and transparency approaches that strengthen confidence among donors, investors, and beneficiaries.
  • Prepare technical reports, briefs, presentations, and client-facing outputs.
  • Contribute to impact measurement and verification approaches for climate- and sustainability-focused investments and programmes.
  • Document and share lessons learned, good practice, and market insights from climate and sustainable finance engagements.

Business Development and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the growth of PwC’s climate and sustainable finance portfolio, including opportunity identification, client engagement, and development of concept notes, proposals, and presentations.
  • Support stakeholder mapping, engagement, and coordination across governments, development partners, INGOs, multilateral institutions, financial institutions, investors, and private sector actors.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge development and proposition building in climate finance, sustainable finance, blended finance, project preparation, and development finance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across PwC offices within the East Market Area (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zambia).
