Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer (Mechanical & Water) Job PSCK

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:-

• served cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) in the grade of Principal Engineer (Building & Water), CSG 7 or comparable and relevant position in the public service;
• a Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree in any of the following disciplines:
• Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
• registration by Engineers Board of Kenya as a Professional Engineer;
• registration as a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK);
• valid Annual Practicing License from the Engineers Board of Kenya; and
• demonstrated high degree of professional competence and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

• developing, implementing and reviewing policies, strategies, standards, guidelines, procedures and frameworks pertaining to mechanical engineering (building and water) and fire engineering services;
• supervising development, planning, designing, detailing and preparation of drawing, bill of quantities and tender documents for mechanical engineering (building and water) and fire engineering works and projects;
• supervising construction, installation, improvement and maintenance of mechanical engineering (building and water) and fire engineering works and projects;
• ensuring quality control of completed mechanical engineering (building and water) and fire engineering works and projects;
• supervising mechanical engineering (building and water) and fire engineering works and projects and contracts before, during and after completion;
• coordinating site assessment during planning, design, construction, installation, maintenance and repair works;

• reviewing and recommending for approval of engineering consultants’ designs;
• evaluating and certifying fees submitted by consultants;
• reviewing designs, project proposal and reports prepared by consultants;
• designing     mechanisms  for      monitoring    and         evaluation     of        mechanical engineering (building and water) and fire engineering works and projects;
• preparing specifications for procurement of spare parts for repair and maintenance of equipment, machines and plant;
• conducting research in emerging trends and technologies in mechanical engineering (building and water);
• preparing project costings and budgets for mechanical engineering (building and water) and fire engineering services;
• preparing specifications for procurement of spare parts for repair and maintenance of equipment, machines and plant;
• maintaining information on mechanical engineering services (building and water);
• preparing progress reports.
• preparing strategic/work plans, budgets and performance targets; and
• coaching and mentoring of staff.
