Qualifications

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

• cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years, three (3) years of which must have been in the grade of Principal Instructor KIHBT, CSG 8 or in comparable and relevant positions in public service;
• a Diploma in any of the following disciplines: – Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Construction Plant Engineering, Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Building Construction, Land Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Architecture or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

                                 OR

• a Technician Il and Ill (KNEC) Certificate in the relevant field;
• a Higher Diploma in any of the following disciplines: – Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineeri ng, Construction Plant Engineering, Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Building Construction, Land Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Architecture or its equivalent and  relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
• a Training of Trainers Certificate lasting not less than four (4) weeks or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
• registered by the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) as a Certified Engineering Technician;

                                 OR

• registered by any other relevant professional body;  and
• demonstrated merit and ability in administration of practical training  programmes and staff development.

Duties and Responsibilities

• coordinating preparation of work schemes;
• instructing trainees in the area of specialization;
• coordinating preparation of course materials and schedules;
• coordinating and developing practical training courses/programmes relating to the relevant area of training;
• coordinating development of instructional materials;
• coordinating design of machines, tools, equipment, technical training aids used in the instructional field;
• coordinating evaluation of progress and overall performance of trainees;
• coordinating design of practical training course/programmes relating to the relevant area of training;
• preparing and planning of maintenance schedule;
• guiding on instructional methods and processes;
• monitor and evaluate training programmes; and
• supervising instructors and Laboratory technicians.
