We are seeking a School Counselor who has extensive experience of working with teenagers (boys) and young children of school age. As a School Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students. You will work closely with other counselors, students, parents, teachers, and other school staff to provide guidance, counseling, and resources to help our young people navigate through the challenges they face.

  • Support the school’s mental health strategy and contribute to its effective development as directed by the senior mental health lead.
  • Take a lead in developing mental health and wellbeing strategies in our students with a focus in early intervention and preventative work.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions and group interventions to support emotional, academic, and social development of students.
  • Plan and lead workshops and psycho-educational sessions with students to address common issues students face, such as self-esteem, stress management, and relationship issues.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including counseling notes and progress reports.
  • Coordinate with the school Chaplain to provide additional support and resources to students when necessary.
  • Develop and implement crisis response plans in collaboration with school administration.
  • Uphold the school’s mission, values, and policies in all interactions and interventions.
  • Minimum a degree in Counseling Psychology.
  • Certification from a recognized counseling association or body in Kenya, and certification with the counseling and psychologist board ministry of health (MOH).
  • Registered as a Counseling Psychologist.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a School Counselor, preferably with teenagers.
  • Strong understanding of the social and emotional issues that children and teenagers may face.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both with students and adults. The ability to be empathetic and an active listener.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals, including students, parents, and teachers.
  • Knowledge of child protection and ethical practices in counseling.
  • Experience in facilitating individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Maintain high levels of confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in counseling practices.
