Principal ICT Assistant (Systems Administrator) Job WRTI

Job Purpose

  • Coordinate implementation and monitoring of database server engine, and manages all aspects of a database including installation, configuration, data migration, security, backups, troubleshooting, and data recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planning and implementation of databases to ensure adequate hosting, availability and security of information.
  • Coordinate access and security, controlling access permissions and privileges to ensure only authorized access to data.
  • Coordinate monitoring of database and application performance and managing parameters to provide fast and optimal query response to front end users.
  • Supervise development of database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata – data about data).
  • Supervise deployment and maintenance of computer infrastructure and the diagnosis and resolution of technical problems and issues.
  • Coordinate data storage and recovery.
  • Coordinate support of user requests.
  • Coordinate implementation and review of ICT security policies, standards, procedures and guidelines to align with the GOK standards.
  • Monitor Security Systems in the Institute including Firewall, Antivirus, CCTV and
  • Uninterruptible Power Systems.
  • Coordinate design, implementation, operation and maintenance of the information security management system.
  • Coordinate maintenance of ICT security tools and contact lists and analyse system security logs.
  • Coordinate implementation of security awareness, training and educational activities to promote risk awareness.
  • Coordinate creation of user profiles and passwords for staff access to domain services.
  • Coordinate design set up, management and configuration of complex switching environments and complex wireless networks.
  • Coordinate configuration, set up and maintenance of Firewalls, routers, VPN
  • Concentrators and Security appliances for access to vital mission critical applications.
  • Supervise set up and maintenance of the LAN and its associated components.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to internal staff, vendors, and partner agencies to ensure optimal use of systems.
  • Supervise network upgrades.
  • Coordinate system audits and investigations by managing plans, strategies, and
  • procedures for the design, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of systems.
  • Coordinate management of Institute’s website and the intranet.
  • Coordinate maintenance of the telecom’s infrastructure.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: – Information Communication Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, ICT Project Management, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Business Management and Information Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • At least any one (1) certification from relevant professional bodies in either CCNP, CDCP, CCNA Cloud, CCNA Industrial/IoT, CCNA, MCSE, MCSA, MCSD, N+, A+ OCA, CISSP, Linux+, Network+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), CISA, CISM, CGEIT or other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • Cumulative service period of twelve (12) years’ work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the level of Senior Information Communication Assistant I or in a comparable position.
  • CISA Membership or an equivalent ICT professional body;
  • Supervisory Skills Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution; and
  • Demonstrated professional competence and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
