Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides therapy services to children with special needs to enhance their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social functioning.
  • Takes responsibility for monitoring and promoting the physical and emotional development of children enrolled in the program.
  • Assists in child registration, provides psychosocial support, facilitates medical referrals, offers emergency assistance, and conducts health education.
  • Conducts home visits for children with special needs when necessary, to assess progress and provide individualized support.
  • Conducts awareness trainings for communities within Lunga Lunga Sub-county on issues affecting children with disabilities.
  • Gathers and records relevant child-related information in compliance with program guidelines, procedures, and confidentiality standards.
  • Connects caregivers to appropriate service providers, ensuring timely referrals for additional support services.
  • Assesses the development of children with special needs every three months and submits detailed reports to the Senior Coordinating Occupational Therapist.
  • Reviews and updates program files quarterly and reports progress to the program Coordinator
  • Contributes to the planning, implementation, and monitoring of program activities.
  • Supports KidsCares efforts related to children with disabilities (CWDs) through collaboration and capacity building.
  • Proposes new activities or initiatives that require funding to improve the quality of life for children with special need
  • Participates as an active member of the Homecare team by providing training, constructive feedback, and collaborative solutions to challenges.
  • Supports and participates in other organizational activities and events as requested by KidsCare.
  • Identifies and refers child protection concerns involving both children with and without disabilities to the appropriate channels.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma and experienced in occupational therapy;
  • At least three years’ experience in working with programs for children with disabilities
  • Experienced in working in communities;
  • Experienced in planning and organizing
  • Counseling skills;
  • Able to work independently;
  • Able to take feedback and ready to learn;
  • Good reporting skills;
  • Able to work with deadlines;
  • Able to act confidentially;
  • Excellent in communication in English and Kiswahili;
  • Computer literate, knowledge of software programs like Office365 etc.
