About the Job

For this role, Agriterra is looking for a Cooperative Advisor who can provide expert adviceand coordinate advisory trajectories with reputable cooperatives and farmer organisationsin counties in the LREB – Homabay Cluster (Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira and Bomet).You will have an advisory and coaching role in building development trajectories aimed atstrengthening cooperatives and farmers’ organisations and making them more resilient toclimate shocks.To achieve this, the successful candidate will initiate and maintain a network that willinclude cooperatives and farmers’ organisations, financial institutions, traders, serviceproviders, and other stakeholders in the value chains, depending on the area of work.He/she will initiate and guide change trajectories with cooperatives selected, and willlobby, mediate, and support negotiation processes, as well as prepare business deals.This is, therefore, a dream job for a real pioneer!

Duties‍

Cooperative advisory work

  • Guide and empower targeted cooperatives throughcomprehensive project interventions—from initial development and scoping to indepth assessments, hands-on training, and strategic advisory support—all within thestrategic framework established by the project lead.
  • Drive cooperative success through tailored advisory pathways focused on governance excellence, financial sustainability, business growth, and production optimisation—all while managing personal and team responsibilities to meet every project milestone.

Administration & reporting

  • Transform data into impact by documenting progress, analysing setbacks as learning opportunities, monitoring implementation effectiveness, and sharing breakthrough insights that scale success across the programme.

Business development & stakeholder engagement

  • Drive innovation by identifying breakthrough opportunities in operational excellence, project optimisation, and market development, translating insights into compelling action plans. Cultivate strategic partnerships and represent Agriterra’s mission across counties, connecting with companies, SMEs, and financial institutions to unlock cooperative potential.

Communication

  • Keep the project team connected and informed through regular updates on achievements, emerging opportunities, and challenges, enabling swiftstrategic responses and continuous improvement.

Quality assurance

  • Uphold Agriterra’s reputation for excellence by ensuring all services meet established standards while providing specialised, responsive support that consistently delivers value to cooperative partners within agreed timelines

Technical Expertise Development

  • Lead knowledge advancement as a specialisttrainer, contributing to Agriterra’s intellectual capital through coaching, learningfacilitation, and systematic capture of new insights and lessons learned. Stay at theforefront of industry developments through professional development opportunities,then champion knowledge application throughout the organisation.

Organisational Sustainability

  • Guide cooperatives toward financial independenceby developing robust organisational frameworks that enhance climate-smart servicedelivery and provide members with the agricultural extension support they need tothrive sustainably.

‍What do you bring

Educational background

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in business economics, agri-business, or arelated field.

Experience

  • Your career shows at least 5 years of experience in working with cooperatives andfarmer organisations dealing with coffee, tea, dairy, poultry, fruit trees, and Africanleafy vegetables in developing countries, preferably in the agricultural or cooperativesector in Kenya

Sector Knowledge

  • You have excellent knowledge of cooperative business development, marketdevelopment, agricultural service provision, climate resilient strategies forfarmers, entrepreneurship, governance, and financial management.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • You have a high proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
