Zonal Laboratory Limited is seeking a highly skilled Inspection Lead Specialist to establish, oversee, and manage inspection operations across agricultural commodities, general cargo, and petroleum products. The role requires a hands-on leader with in-depth knowledge of inspection procedures, compliance with Kenyan regulatory frameworks, and familiarity with international inspection standards.

The successful candidate will ensure strict adherence to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 standards while driving operational excellence, business growth, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection Operations

• Plan, coordinate, and conduct inspections for agricultural commodities, general cargo, and petroleum products in line with KENAS Type A Inspection Body standards.
• Supervise weighing, tallying, sampling, and verification processes.
• Conduct ship-side/shore-side inspections, discharge measurements, and bunker tracking for petroleum cargo.
• Develop and implement inspection protocols aligned with FOSFA, GAFTA, API, ASTM, and ISO standards.
• Prepare detailed, accurate inspection reports and maintain updated documentation in line with ISO/IEC 17020 requirements.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with Kenyan laws, KENAS accreditation requirements, and ISO/IEC 17020 standards.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective controls.
• Liaise with KENAS for surveillance audits and maintain proper use of accreditation symbols.

Business Development

• Identify and secure new inspection service clients.
• Support proposal development, quotations, and service packages tailored to client needs.
• Represent the company at industry events, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory forums to enhance visibility and growth.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and train inspection staff as the department expands.
• Foster a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Strategic Planning & Stakeholder Management
• Develop annual inspection plans, KPIs, and departmental strategies.
• Present inspection findings and corrective recommendations to stakeholders.
• Act as the primary liaison with regulators, accreditation bodies, and industry stakeholders.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
• Professional certifications (advantage): CQI, ISO/IEC 17020 Lead Assessor, FOSFA/GAFTA, API, or Port Operations.
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in inspection of cargo, petroleum, or agricultural commodities.
• Strong background in port operations, marine surveying, and cargo superintending.
• Proven ability to establish inspection processes and manage field operations.
• Familiarity with FOSFA, GAFTA, API, ASTM standards.
• Prior experience at Port of Mombasa or similar environments preferred.
• Sales and client management experience in inspection services is an asset.

Technical Skills

• In-depth knowledge of ISO/IEC 17020:2012 standards.
• Expertise in petroleum products inspection, bunker fuel standards, and commodity grading.
• Familiarity with equipment calibration and inspection methodologies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry-specific inspection software.
