Head Trainer NGO Job. NGO Jobs In Kenya

Location: Nairobi, Kenya (with local travel)
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours/week), 12-month contract, renewable
Reports to: Director of Operations (E.U.-based)
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications (to be discussed during the interview process)

About The Giving Exchange (TGE): The Giving Exchange partners with under-resourced communities to implement self-sustaining projects for a lasting impact. We value honesty, transparency, and collaboration. Our strong board and dedicated staff work together to improve the lives of under-resourced communities in East Africa (primarily Kenya and Uganda).

Position Summary:

The Giving Exchange believes that the success of every project begins with a well-prepared leader. Many of our applicants and partners have great ideas but lack access to essential business skills like budgeting, marketing, sales, and planning. The Head Trainer will design and deliver a practical, culturally relevant business education program for grassroots entrepreneurs and local partner organizations applying for TGE microenterprise funding. This role is key to increasing the success rate of our projects by building capacity and confidence before funding is disbursed.

Who You’ll Work With:

This role will begin by training two distinct types of TGE applicants/beneficiaries: 1) Partners (typically directors of local NGOs), and 2) Members (individuals with business ideas). The long-term goal is to determine which group is more impactful and help shape a replicable model for future TGE programming. The Head Trainer will supervise two Project Coordinators in Kenya and collaborate with a team of 10+ active volunteers. This position reports to the Director of Operations (E.U.-based) and works closely with the Executive Director (U.S.-based) and Assessment Committee and Board of Directors based in the U.S.

Primary Responsibilities:

Curriculum Design & Delivery

  • Design a practical business training curriculum for micro-entrepreneurs, specific to Kenya and Uganda.
  • Deliver regular training sessions in-person or virtually and adapt content based on participant feedback and business context.

Mentorship & Ongoing Support

  • Provide mentorship to training participants post-graduation as they launch and grow their businesses.
  • Develop a support structure that encourages accountability and problem-solving among alumni.

Grant Assessment Support

  • Partner with TGE’s project assessment team to evaluate applicant readiness for grant funding.
  • Make recommendations based on training performance, participation, and follow-up engagement.

Monitoring & Impact Measurement

  • Create tools and processes to measure entrepreneur success at key intervals: pre-training, post-training, and 6–24 months into business operations.
  • Use data to improve the curriculum, guide funding decisions, and demonstrate impact to donors and supporters globally.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Development Studies, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in training, curriculum design, entrepreneurship, or small business development, preferably in East Africa
  • Proven ability to design and deliver practical, culturally relevant business training programs
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to teach and mentor individuals with varied educational backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience managing people or small teams
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working independently and remotely
  • Passion for The Giving Exchange’s mission of implementing self-sustaining projects in underserved communities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Social Entrepreneurship, Development Economics)
  • Experience working with microenterprise or community-based business models
  • Familiarity with Kenya’s and/or Uganda’s economic and social context, especially among low-income communities
  • Experience building monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools or using data to drive decision-making
