Duties and responsibilities

• Assist in coxswain in safe embarkation and disembarkation of boat passengers
• Assist in the maintenance of boat search and rescue equipment
• Assist in search and rescue operations
• Assist in routine housekeeping of search and rescue boats
• Assist in basic maintenance of the boat
• Assist in executing shifting orders of search and rescue boats
• Assist in look out during search and rescue operations

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must:

• Certificate of Proficiency as Coxswain in accordance with the Merchant Shipping (Training and Certification) Regulations as amended or equivalent from a recognized institution
• KCSE D plain or equivalent
