We are seeking a seasoned Claims & Contracts Expert to join our team overseeing large-scale road construction projects across East Africa. This is a high-impact role requiring a strategic thinker who can navigate complex international contracts and safeguard project interests in a dynamic environment.

Key Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 15 years of professional experience in contract management and claims, specifically on major road and highway projects.
  • Education: Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Law. A post-graduate qualification in Construction Law or Arbitration is highly desirable.
  • Expertise: Deep fluency in FIDIC Conditions of Contract (Red and Yellow books) and experience with multilateral development bank (MDB) procurement guidelines.
  • Regional Context: Proven track record of working on infrastructure projects within East Africa or similar emerging markets.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end management of contractual obligations and the resolution of complex claims:
  • Contract Administration: Oversee the administration of main contracts and subcontracts, ensuring all parties adhere strictly to the terms, timelines, and reporting requirements.
  • Claims Management: Identify, notify, and prepare detailed contractual claims for extensions of time (EOT) and additional costs. Conversely, evaluate and defend against claims submitted by contractors.
  • Dispute Resolution: Lead negotiations and provide expert input during Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) proceedings, arbitrations, or mediations.
  • Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular reviews of project progress to identify potential contractual risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Financial Oversight: Collaborate with the Quantity Surveying team to ensure interim payment certificates and final accounts accurately reflect contractual entitlements.
  • Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly contractual status reports for senior management and project stakeholders.

Note: Only candidates meeting the 15-year seniority threshold and specific road project experience will be considered.
