How I Got Many Interviews After My CV Was Revamped.

A CV is a marketing document that employers look at before they invite you for an interview.  It needs to give an overview of who you are in your professional life and position you as the best candidate.

A well-written resume grabs the attention of employers and increases your chances of being shortlisted.

For Christopher Ndichu, when his CV was revamped, he was invited for many interviews which didn’t happen

CPA Christopher Ndichu

when he had an old resume.

He later applied for an accounting role we had advertised for our client Fertiplant and after a series of interviews; he was considered for the role. Here is his story and a few lessons you can pick from his journey.

Tell us about yourself. What is your professional qualification?

I am an accounting professional with over 7 years of experience working in the manufacturing industry and dairy industries. I am skilled in ERP implementation and startup companies, expert in AR/AP, ICS, Taxation, and Auditing & GL among others.

How long had you been looking for a job?

I had been looking for a new and engaging role for over one year. I was looking for a new role because I felt my skills and expertise were underutilized in my previous role and I didn’t feel challenged.

What has your job search experience been like?

It was hectic reaching to the interview stage which did not translate to the job offer. I remember attending several second interviews but I was not offered the job and I never knew what I was doing wrong.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Yes, I didn’t receive feedback from potential employers after attending the interviews.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity? And would you recommend Corporate Staffing to anyone?

I learned about Corporate Staffing services through the online platform, specifically LinkedIn. I got them to revamp my CV which got me interviews and later my current job. I am planning to book an interview coaching session to sharpen my interview coaching skills as I prepare for future opportunities. I have been actually referring most of the job seekers and I would recommend anyone looking for a job to visit their website for the roles that are currently running.

How was the application and interview process?

The process was professional, well-organized, and considerate. Despite the distance, I was able to do the virtual interviews and managed to be the best candidate.

Did you think you would get the job?

I was not sure but since I met the requirements that were on the job description, I knew I had a higher chance.

What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?

The job market is competitive and has drastically changed. The employers are looking for candidates with a positive attitude towards work and those who will bring value to their company. They also look for relevant skills and experience that match what they want.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs during this tough time. What is your advice to them?

My advice is, there are many opportunities out there and therefore it is important to be updated with what employers are looking for.  Have a professional resume and seek career advice to understand what is trending in the market and position yourself for your dream job. Sign up for relevant courses to develop the skills that will make remain relevant in the field.
