How A Referral Landed Me A Job Through CSS

When the year began, many professionals purposed that this would be the year of change in terms of their careers.

Lavendah Atieno purposed that this was her year of change and she decided to take a risk that ultimately paid off.

In January when we advertised this Customer Service Job on our website and other partner websites for our client Hypermart Limited, she applied and got the job!

I sought to understand what was going through her mind as she took the risk, hoping it would pay off.

You may have purposed for change this year, but nothing seems forthcoming.

Here is what you can pick from Lavendah’s journey:

What is your professional qualification? Your years of experience?

I like to term myself as a dedicated customer service & sales professional with over five years of work experience in a fast-paced environment. This year, my goal was to work in a team-oriented company.

How long had you been looking for a job?

I had been looking for a job for a few months while still working for my previous employer. When the year began, I knew I needed change and if I didn’t get any job, I would still leave the company I was working for.

After working for my previous employer for slightly over five years and having grown through various positions, I felt I needed to take a risk and throw myself into the job search pool, as well as give room to other professionals.

What has your job search experience been like?

At times, it was tiresome. After applying for numerous job opportunities and getting called for various interviews, I would often not get feedback. To be honest, this can make anyone give up. But what I’ve learned is, as a job seeker, you need to find out what you are not doing right and then make the change.

Going through various interviews and not getting any feedback was quite disheartening and frustrating.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I had known about Corporate Staffing for some time. In fact, a few years back, I had my CV written by the CV writing department.

I came to know about this job opportunity from a friend.

How was the interview process?

Both interviews I went through were conversational and friendly.

The one thing I appreciated most was the fact that I was asked what I did for fun. This was a different experience.

Truth is, the world and the job market is evolving. Just knowing the common interview questions to expect may not be enough to get you the job.

Did you think you would get the job?

I thought I would. I was 50% sure I would. The recruitment manager I interacted with at Corporate Staffing was quite encouraging and this made me positive about the whole process.

Congratulations on getting the job. What is your advice to other job seekers?

Don’t give up applying for jobs. Indeed, times are hard, but there is a job waiting for you. Also, do not put all your eggs in one basket. Plan for an alternative – another source of income.
