Job Responsibilities

The Waiter / Waitress is responsible for providing high-quality service in a full-service restaurant or club environment, ensuring guest satisfaction and compliance with food safety and sanitation protocols. They must deliver exceptional service by maintaining a professional demeanor and handling challenging situations with tact and diplomacy. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Customer Service and Food Delivery:

  • Taking customer orders and delivering food and beverages promptly and accurately.
  • Anticipating customer needs, answering questions about menu items, and providing recommendations when needed.
  • Addressing and resolving customer concerns professionally and ensuring a positive dining experience.
  • Maintaining composure and demonstrating tact while handling difficult or unpleasant situations with diplomacy.

Compliance and Training:

  • Completing four hours of initial food sanitation training within the first 30 days of employment and an additional four hours of annual food sanitation training in compliance with NAVMED P-5010-1 and CNICINST 1710.3.
  • Undergoing ServSafe Alcohol Safety or Alcohol Server Intervention Training (ASIT) annually if serving alcohol.
  • Maintaining compliance with all food and beverage service safety standards and operational guidelines.

Dining Area Maintenance:

  • Ensuring tables and dining areas are clean, organized, and ready for guests.
  • Setting up tables with appropriate linens, silverware, and glassware as required.
  • Assisting with end-of-shift duties, including cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies.

Team Collaboration:

  • Working collaboratively with other wait staff, kitchen personnel, and supervisors to create a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Offering support to teammates during busy or challenging shifts to ensure service standards are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • 1 year of satisfactory experience as a server in a full-service restaurant or club environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse set of customers and provide excellent service with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to engage with customers and relay orders to kitchen and bar staff effectively.
  • Completion of food sanitation training per NAVMED P-5010-1 and CNICINST 1710.3 (training provided if not already certified).
  • Must be willing to complete annual alcohol service training (ServSafe or ASIT) if serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure compliance with food service presentation and cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Familiarity with military or government dining policies and standards.
  • Additional certifications in customer service or food safety, such as advanced ServSafe Food Protection certification.
  • Experience providing high-quality service in formal dining or club environments.
