Job Summary
The Territory Sales Representative will be responsible for driving and expanding the company’s sales footprint across Modern Trade (MT) and General Trade (GT) channels in Uganda. The position plays a key role in achieving sales targets, supervising field merchandising efforts, managing route-to-market execution, and fostering strong partnerships in line with the company’s and the distributor’s business goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Sales Execution and Growth
- Achieve monthly and quarterly sales targets across assigned MT and GT accounts.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within assigned territories.
- Work with the distributor team to implement sales strategies and trade programs.
Trade & Channel Management
- Support and execute channel-specific strategies for GT (wholesalers, kiosks, dukas) and MT (supermarkets, retail chains).
- Ensure proper placement, visibility, and activation of the products at trade level.
- Monitor pricing, promotions, and competitor activity in the field.
Distributor Engagement
- Act as the direct link between the company and the distributor on field-related sales matters.
- Attend planning and review meetings at the distributors and coordinate joint market activities.
- Provide market intelligence, opportunities, and risks to both the company and distributor.
Team Supervision & Merchandiser Coordination
- Supervise and support field merchandisers assigned within the region.
- Provide field coaching, route planning, and performance tracking.
- Ensure brand guidelines and in-store standards are adhered to.
Reporting and Communication
- Prepare and submit monthly sales reports to the company in collaboration with the distributor’s Operations Manager.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide insights on trends, wins, and gaps.
- Maintain updated customer and trade contact lists.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with retail partners, wholesalers, and key decision makers.
- Resolve trade-level issues or complaints in coordination with distributor’s operations and the company’s.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the company’s stores, logistics, and accounts teams to ensure smooth order processing and fulfillment.
- Support product launches, marketing activations, and trade promotions in the market.
Key Requirement Skills And Qualification
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Business, or related field
- Mininum 3 years’ experience in FMCG sales and distribution (preferably across Uganda)
- Strong knowledge of retail and distributor operations in the Ugandan market
- Experience handling both MT and GT channels is required
- Familiarity with merchandising, route-to-market, and sales operations
