The Kenya Maritime Authority is a State Corporation whose mandate is to regulate, coordinate, and oversee maritime affairs, as guided by the Kenya Maritime Authority Act, 2006, the Merchant Shipping Act, 2009, and relevant maritime international conventions

The Authority is seeking to recruit highly competent, proactive and self-driven individuals to fill the following vacant position

  • Assist in enforcing safety of shipping, including compliance with construction regulations, maintenance of safety standards and safety of navigation rules;
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining all established by the Authority and such other government owned navigational aids as may be under the control of the Authority;
  • Assist in ensuring that all other navigational aids are established in compliance with the prescribed conditions and specifications and are maintained in proper working order;
  • Assist in promulgating any information on changes to or deficiencies in any navigational aid in accordance with IMO/IHO World-Wide Navigational Warning Service standards;
  • Assist in promulgating information on any developing or existing situations which may adversely affect maritime safety;
  • Assist in investigating dangers to navigation.
  • Assist in processing the application for, and grant exemptions or equivalents, accordingly.
  • Prepare a report summarising all new exemptions and equivalents granted and communicate the same to the IMO, accordingly.
  • Collect meteorological data.
  • Issue weather warnings ships.
  • Issue, as appropriate, weather information suitable for shipping.
  • Prepare and issue meteorological publications.
  • Arrange for a selection of ships to be equipped with tested marine meteorological instruments and to encourage other ships to take, record and transmit observations.
  • Arrange for the reception and transmission of weather messages from and to ships.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor’s Degree Naval Architecture
  • Bachelor’s Degree Nautical Science
