Senior Investment Associate – Renewable Energy, Waste & Water Focus Job. Finance Jobs In Kenya

We are strengthening our fund management team in Kenya and are seeking a Senior Associate with experience in renewable energy, waste and water investments. The role involves sourcing, structuring, and managing investments, with a focus on corporate and SME solutions, such as commercial & industrial solar, battery storage, energy efficiency, and e-mobility, alongside commercial waste and water projects.

Main responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities within Kenya and our other African countries of operation, particularly in renewable energy for SMEs, as well as waste & water investments.
  • Prepare and present investment proposals with well-defined strategies to scale operations and create long-term value.
  • Play a key role in deal structuring and negotiating investments to meet both financial and impact objectives.
  • Oversee and enhance the operational, financial and non-financial (ESG) performance of portfolio investments.
  • Develop and implement exit strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, banks, and the business community in our countries of operation.
  • Monitor market trends and provide local intelligence on the renewable energy and waste/water sectors.

Required skills

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Management, or Engineering. CFA or ACCA qualification is a plus.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the financial sector, with a successful track record in financing renewable energy projects and/or water/waste investments, ideally for SMEs in East, Central and Southern Africa; or financial experience within a renewable energy or waste & water firm. You have been in the lead and have closed several transactions in the above-mentioned sectors.
  • Strong financial analysis and modelling skills.
  • In-depth understanding of the Kenyan business environment and key players in the renewable energy sector across East, Central and Southern Africa.
  • Proven ability to lead transaction teams and work effectively within a team setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills; fluency in English. Any additional language like French or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Must be based in Nairobi, Kenya, and the preferred candidate is allowed to work in Kenya without sponsorship of a work permit.
