Sales Representative – General Trade Job (32K)

Gross Salary: Ksh 32k + Commission,

Our client is a reputable manufacturer in the consumer goods industry. With a strong presence in the local market and a commitment to delivering quality, they are looking to expand their footprint through a robust general trade sales strategy.
The Sales Representative – GT will be responsible for managing and growing the distribution network by attending to existing Distributors, Agents, Retail outlets, Institutions, and HORECA customers. The role involves identifying new business opportunities, executing sales strategies, and ensuring consistent availability and visibility of products in line with sales targets and company standards.

  • Recruit and manage new Distributors, Agents, and Retail outlets within the assigned territory.
  • Achieve monthly and quarterly sales volume targets, drive market share growth, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure full product availability (all brands and SKUs) across all outlets including Distributors and Retailers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Distributors and downstream customers (2nd and 3rd tier).
  • Conduct customer route mapping including location and contact details, and manage route coverage efficiently.
  • Service orders from Key Institutions and HORECAs based on their specific requirements.
  • Implement distribution plans, retail execution programs, and route-to-market strategies.
  • Carry out Distributor Operating Standards Appraisals (DOSA) every quarter and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Collect and report market intelligence on competitor activities and propose actionable insights.
  • Execute marketing initiatives, sales promotions, and advertising campaigns within the assigned budgets and timelines.
  • Communicate business terms and ensure adherence to company credit and payment policies by all partners.
  • Train Distributor teams (salesmen, stockers, merchandisers, warehouse staff) on product knowledge, merchandising, FIFO, POS placement, and stock levels.

Academic & Professional Qualifications

  • Diploma in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.

Experience

  • 3–4 years of experience in FMCG sales, preferably in maize meal or related products.
  • Experience working with general trade and route-to-market strategies.
  • Key Competencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Highly organized, self-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service orientation.

Gross Salary: Ksh 32k + Commission,
