Move On Afrika is seeking to engage a results-oriented and self-driven Rangeland Management Specialist to support a short-term assignment aimed at enhancing sustainable rangeland use, strengthening community resilience, and improving livelihoods among pastoral communities.

As our Rangeland Management Specialist , you will:

  • Attend technical defence and inception meetings to shape program direction and stakeholder alignment.
  • Provide technical expertise in the design and implementation of sustainable rangeland management interventions.
  • Conduct field assessments to evaluate rangeland conditions, resource use, and levels of degradation.
  • Support the development and/or review of grazing plans, pasture management systems, and rangeland restoration strategies.
  • Facilitate training and capacity building for pastoral communities, rangeland management committees, and local stakeholders.
  • Strengthen community-based governance structures and promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
  • Collaborate with county governments, partners, and community institutions to support coordinated rangeland management initiatives.
  • Promote integration of rangeland management with livelihood opportunities such as fodder production and livestock productivity.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of rangeland management interventions, including data collection and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit technical reports, including assessment findings, lessons learned, and actionable recommendations.
  • Must have a master’s degree in Rangelands Management or related.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the evaluation of rangelands programs including leading evaluations of multistakeholder programs for development organizations in Kenya ASALs.
  • Extensive experience in conducting outcome harvesting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated skills in research, data collection, monitoring and evaluation of water, rangelands,
  • Market Systems Development (MSD) and Gender donor-funded programs in ASAL areas with at least 8 years of practical experience.
  • Proof of experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative studies using mobile data collection.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis packages (SPSS, STATA, Nvivoand MAXQDA) and excellent experience in mobile data collection.
  • Excellent report writing, analytical, and communication skills are essential.
  • Specialist should be based in Kenya but with other global offices are preferred.
