Location: Mombasa, Kenya
Duration: 1 Year (with possibility of extension)
Reporting To: Chief Operations Officer, with dotted line to Chief Mentor

Position Overview

The MERL Coordinator oversees the implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning activities for SPH’s Kenya programme, covering pathways like Case Management, Creative, Data Science, Health, Manufacturing, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality & Tourism, and Youth Hub Network.

Scope of Role

Design, implement, and improve M&E systems to track progress, outputs, and outcomes, ensuring alignment with SPH MERL standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement M&E frameworks for qualitative and quantitative data tracking.
  • Facilitate use of M&E findings for strategic reviews and adaptive programme design.
  • Ensure accountability and transparency in reporting.
  • Collaborate with programme managers and partners for data collection and analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership in MERL capacity-building.
  • Support documentation and dissemination of lessons learned and best practices.

Key Areas

  • Coordinate MERL agenda for SPH programme portfolio.
  • Develop M&E frameworks, indicators, protocols, and tools.
  • Coordinate surveys, studies, and evaluations.
  • Produce high-quality M&E reports for donors and management.
  • Conduct programme quality assessments and field monitoring.
  • Co-lead reviews and reflections with project leads and COO.
  • Manage performance of Data Administrators, interns, and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, economics, statistics, or social sciences.
  • Minimum 3 years in M&E of development programmes, with 2 years in management.
  • Knowledge of Results-Based Management, logic models, and SMART indicators.
  • Experience in survey design and qualitative studies.
  • Proficiency in SPSS or STATA; knowledge of Ms Access or CSPro desirable.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
