Reporting to: General Manager – Geothermal Resource Development

Job Summary

The job holder is responsible for reconnaissance, research, exploration, assessment, development, monitoring and management of geothermal resources for sustainable geothermal development.

Duties and responsibilities will entail: –

  • Providing leadership in the development and implementation of geothermal resource assessment strategies including development of departmental workplans and budgets
  • Efficient and effective exploration of geothermal resources through surface geoscientific studies and exploration drilling so that sustainable development of geothermal power is achieved in an economical, timely, safe and in an environmentally friendly manner
  • Overseeing the development of reliable geothermal model and ensure effective geothermal well targeting and drilling with an objective to get more steam for the development of geothermal power
  • Coordination of data collected from borehole geology/geochemistry and resource assessment in developing and updating of the geothermal model
  • Facilitate geo-hazard monitoring in all developed fields to ensure effective management of associated risks
  • Effectively manage the capacity building and career development of internal expertise/experts
  • Providing advice on the direction of geothermal resource development in accordance with the geothermal expansion plan of the company
  • Facilitating objective capacity building of internal expertise targeted towards the provision of technical knowledge and knowhow in the region through the Geothermal Centre of Excellence
  • Prudent management of departmental resources including Human and Financial resources
  • Facilitating scientific and resource assessment innovations and consultancy services in liaison with the mandated Department

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience four (4) years must be in a Supervision role
  • Master’s degree in: -, Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Geochemistry, Geothermal Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Bachelor’s degree in: – Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Chemistry, Geochemistry, Physics or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology or an equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks (cumulative)
  • Be a member of any relevant professional body/association
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
