Maintenance Machinist – PTW Job Kenya Airways

Maintenance Machinist – Production Technical workshop Job Kenya Airways

Purpose

  • To perform precision machining, fabrication, and repair of aircraft components in accordance with aviation standards and engineering specifications, supporting aircraft safety, airworthiness, and operational readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment to manufacture, modify, or restore aircraft components.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and aviation specifications (e.g., ATA 100, EASA guidelines).
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Perform surface finishing processes such as honing, deburring, polishing, and thread repair.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation maintenance documentation, repair schemes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with engineers and inspectors to validate machining tolerances and identify rework requirements.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety, quality assurance, and environmental protocols in the workshop.
  • Record and document work performed in line with regulatory and organizational standards (e.g., work orders, job cards).
  • Assist in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for failed or rejected components.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and machine shop capability upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Machining, or Aircraft Maintenance Technology.
  • Minimum 3 years in an aviation or aerospace machine shop environment.
  • Aircraft maintenance license (advantageous but not mandatory); relevant CNC/machining certifications.
  • Trade test training or certification in industrial Training.
  • Proficiency in machining techniques (manual and CNC).
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy and aviation materials.
  • Familiarity with aviation component standards (e.g., AS9100, Part 145,CMM, SPM, Sbs and ADs).
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
