United States International University – Africa (USIU-Africa) is hiring a Lecturer to deliver academic and contribute to curriculum development and academic excellence. The role is based in Nairobi and university teaching experience is required.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will report to the Dean, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The incumbent will be expected to teach Midwifery and related subjects, including Pregnancy,  Labor, Delivery and Obstetric Emergencies, Puerperium and Newborn, Gynecological Nursing.

  • Teach and assess Nursing courses in the Bachelor of Nursing programme or Bachelor of Pharmacy.
  • Deliver laboratory and practical sessions in midwifery, gynecology and care of the newborn evaluations.
  • Develop and update course materials, laboratory manuals, and digital learning resources.
  • Participate in curriculum development, academic programme review, and accreditation activities.
  • Mentor students in their academic, professional, and research development.
  • Supervise undergraduate research projects where applicable.
  • Engage in collaborative research, scholarly activities, and grant proposal development.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc.N), from a recognized/accredited institution.
  • A Master of Science in Midwifery (MSc.M.), Maternal and Neonatal Nursing, Master of Science in Advanced Practice Midwifery, Midwifery studies, or a closely related field from a recognized/accredited university.
  • A PhD in nursing (Midwifery/ Reproductive Health), or a related discipline will be a distinct advantage.
  • At least three (3) years of university teaching experience in Midwifery or related areas.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body, where applicable (e.g., Nursing Council of Kenya).

Personal Attributes & Competencies

  • Strong background in midwifery, gynecology nursing, and Obstetrics.
  • Practical experience in labor, delivery, obstetric emergencies, care of a newborn, where applicable.
  • Demonstrated competencies in ethical and legal principles of midwifery, midwifery practice and theoretical learning, assessment and evaluation of students in clinical practice, communication, leadership and advocacy.
  • Familiarity with modern educational training and instruction of nursing students.
  • Ability to integrate technology-enhanced learning methods into teaching.
  • Demonstrated research productivity and grant-writing capability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong mentoring, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
