Job Specification

  • Ensure proper handling of laboratory records to keep confidentiality of data as per the legal requirements.
  • Carry out all laboratory tests in line with the laid down policies, procedures of the laboratory investigations and related duties in KPA (Skills document and post SARB or hap on safe copy).
  • Ensure the use of proper laboratory working manuals.
  • Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Control (EQC).
  • Ensure proper use and care of laboratory equipment including medical, microbiological.
  • Process and prepare slides for diagnostic purposes, smears for microscopic examination.
  • Ensure specimens are put and stored in their correct specimen containers and conditions.
  • Register all specimens received in the laboratory in a systematic recording log.
  • Ensure continuous enforcement of occupational health safety and environment policies at workplace.
  • Handle all medical waste with care and dispose of it appropriately.
  • Maintain proper inventory of laboratory wears and chemicals as per the NEMA and MSDS in order to create a safe working environment.

Person Specifications

  • KCSE or its equivalent.
  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognized institution.
  • Registered member of Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists and Technologists Board.
  • ICT Skills.
  • Demonstrated high degree of professional competency, administrative capabilities and initiative in the general organization and management of laboratory services with at least three (3) years’ experience in the same field.
  • Certificate in Pre-service/in-service training in ethics, laws and integrity essential.
  • Compliance with Chapter 6 of the constitution of Kenya: Ethics and integrity.
  • Attendance of a relevant course in the field.
  • UPHOLD CAP 253A of 1999 -KMLTT ACT.
