Game Wardens Job
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the crime section at a station/outpost and map high-conflict or poaching areas
- Record, investigate and forward cases to police for prosecution
- Maintain inventory of lost and found property
- Provide guidance to investigating officers
- Supervise communication (signals and radio rooms)
- Oversee and supervise deployment of officers
- Liaise with government agencies on security matters
- Ensure maintenance of county government vehicles and assets
- Keep operational records and submit timely reports and correspondences
- Execute personnel and administrative duties including morning call-ups and evening briefs
- Assist members of the public, coordinate raids, ambushes and special operations
- Conduct orderly room proceedings and serve as the orderly officer
- Collect and analyze intelligence
- Maintain custody of exhibits, records and installations
- Respond to distress calls and conduct night rounds
- Support other security providers and manage disposal of expired ammunition
- Investigate crimes, apprehend offenders and coordinate community policing initiatives
- Conduct beats, patrols and attend court sessions where necessary
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Wildlife Management, Environmental Management, Forestry, Tourism Management, Environmental Science, Botany and Zoology, Ecology, Counselling and Psychology, Animal Health, Criminology, Law, Risk and Disaster Management, Government and Public Administration, Human Resource Management, or equivalent from a recognized institution
- Be a Kenyan citizen
- Possess a valid National Identification Card
- Have no criminal record
- Present a valid Certificate of Good Conduct
- Be aged 22–30 years (for new recruits)
- (If serving) Hold the rank of Ranger or Corporal
- Be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall for men, and 5 feet 2 inches tall for women
- Be physically and medically fit
- Have good hearing and clear vision
- Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during training
- Be proficient in computer applications
- Satisfy the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 on Leadership and Integrity and Article 232 on Values and Principles of Public Service
Note: Successful applicants will undergo a paramilitary training course lasting not less than nine (9) months, fully sponsored by the Narok County Government.
