Reports to: Deputy Team Leader (with functional reporting to the Executive Director and Board)
Location: Nairobi, with periodic travel to Field Bases and identified conferences and meetings
Supervises: Finance Officer
Duration: Full-time one year renewable.
Relations with Others: Collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Senior Management Team, Community Engagement Lead, departmental leads, and Field Base and administration staff to provide financial leadership, oversight, and support.

InformAction is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Finance Manager to join our dynamic team. The Finance Manager will play a critical role in leading and overseeing all aspects of financial management, ensuring effective stewardship of resources, strong compliance, and long-term financial sustainability in support of the organisation’s mission.

Major Role
As a member of the Management Team, the Finance Manager provides strategic financial leadership to ensure financial efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability, and sound risk management across the organisation. The role oversees financial management systems, policies, and controls in accordance with IFA policies, applicable regulations, international accounting standards, and donor requirements.
The Finance Manager supports organizational strategic planning, provides timely and accurate financial information to management and the Board, monitors financial performance across all IFA Field Bases, and ensures robust internal controls and donor compliance while enabling effective decision-making across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership & Controls:Â Lead financial management through the development, implementation, and periodic review of financial strategies, policies, and procedures. Ensure strong internal controls, regulatory and donor compliance, and accountability for organizational assets and expenditures. Provide financial reports, analysis, and advice to senior management, the Executive Director, and the Board
- Financial Operations Management:Â Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, cash flow, and general ledger management. Ensure all transactions are authorized, documented, and recorded accurately using approved accounting systems.
- Budgeting & Financial Planning:Â Lead the preparation, management, and monitoring of annual and project budgets, as well as quarterly forecasts. Ensure appropriate resource allocation and monitor financial performance against plans. Advise management on resource allocation, cost controls, and long-term financial sustainability
- Reporting & Analysis:Â Prepare, analyze, and present timely financial reports for management, the Board, donors, and stakeholders. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making and ensure all financial statements and reports are accurate and compliant.
- Audit & Compliance:Â Coordinate all financial audits, maintain audit-ready records, implement audit recommendations, and ensure compliance with statutory, donor, and internal reporting requirements. Lead financial risk assessments and contribute to organisational risk management and mitigation planning
- Grant & Donor Financial Management:Â Manage financial aspects of grant proposals, donor-funded projects, and funding applications, including budget development, financial tracking, reporting, and adherence to donor requirements.
- Documentation & Recordkeeping:Â Ensure secure maintenance of all financial records and supporting documentation, and submit financial and donor-required documents, including staff timesheets and grant records, on time.
- Stakeholder Support & Capacity Building:Â Provide financial support and capacity-building to grantee organizations. Maintain strong donor relationships by addressing queries and ensuring transparent, responsive communication.
- Risk Management:Â Identify and mitigate financial risks by implementing strong internal controls to safeguard institutional assets.
- Fundraising & Proposal Support:Â Participate in fundraising and proposal development by preparing accurate budgets, financial projections and cost analyses to support grant and donor submissions. Ensure alignment with organizational strategy and donor requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (Master’s/ Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Preferred).
- Certified Public Accountant (Kenya).
- At least six years of relevant experience in financial management, ideally within the NGO or non-profit sector.
- Experience managing multi-donor and multi-currency funding portfolios.
- Membership in a recognised professional accounting body is an added advantage.
- Certificate of good conduct.
Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Prior experience with national/European funding programs and EU financial procedures, grant budgeting and reporting.
- Systems Proficiency: Familiarity with ERP systems ideally MS Office Dynamics.
- Knowledge of budgeting, auditing, and financial analysis practices.
Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- High level of integrity and ability to work independently while supporting organizational goals.
Salary:
A competitive package of KES 150,000 will be offered in addition to other benefits.
