Role Purpose

To provide end-to-end financial leadership for a licensed Digital Credit Provider, ensuring strong accounting discipline, audit readiness, regulatory compliance, treasury management, and strategic financial planning. The role combines hands-on financial control and audit oversight with forward- looking financial strategy, capital management, and portfolio analytics to support sustainable institutional growth.

Financial Accounting, Reporting and Controllership

  • Own the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of the company’s accounting records in compliance with IFRS, the Companies Act, CBK regulations, and applicable tax laws.
  • Lead end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring disciplined cut-offs, reconciliations, and documentation.
  • Prepare high-quality statutory financial statements, management accounts, regulatory financial returns, and board reporting packs.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously strengthen accounting policies, SOPs, financial controls, and governance frameworks.
  • Maintain full accountability for general ledger integrity, loan portfolio accounting, revenue recognition, cost allocation, treasury accounting, and tax accounting.
  • Ensure audit-ready books at all times.

Internal Control, Audit and Assurance

  • Design, implement, and continuously strengthen the institution’s internal control framework.
  • Lead and coordinate all external audits, internal audits, regulatory inspections, lender audits, and forensic reviews.
  • Own the audit relationship, including audit planning, working paper quality, resolution of audit queries, and closure of management letter findings.
  • Establish and maintain an audit issue tracking and remediation framework, reporting progress regularly to the CEO and Board.

Regulatory and Prudential Compliance (CBK Focus)

  • Lead all regulatory financial reporting in line with Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Digital Credit Provider Regulations and prudential guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with capital adequacy, liquidity, leverage, and solvency requirements.
  • Oversee IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL) modelling, staging, provisioning, and portfolio impairment analysis.
  • Act as the primary finance liaison with CBK, other regulators, and statutory authorities.

Treasury, Funding and Capital Management

  • Develop and execute funding and treasury strategies to support loan book growth and institutional sustainability.
  • Lead bank and lender engagements, negotiations, covenant compliance, and lender reporting.
  • Oversee liquidity management, cash flow forecasting, asset–liability matching (ALM), and interest rate risk.

Strategic Financial Leadership and Business Partnering

  • Act as a strategic business partner to the CEO and senior management, providing financial insight to guide growth, profitability, pricing, and capital allocation decisions.
  • Lead financial planning, multi-year forecasting, scenario analysis, and stress testing.
  • Develop board-grade financial dashboards, performance packs, and executive reporting.

Portfolio Finance and Performance Analytics

  • Partner with Risk and Credit teams to monitor portfolio performance including yield, PAR, write-offs, recoveries, and cost of risk.
  • Lead portfolio profitability analysis, pricing analytics, stress testing, and provisioning sensitivity analysis.

Financial Systems and Digital Enablement

  • Own the finance systems architecture, including core lending system integrations, accounting platforms, payment gateways, and reconciliation engines.
  • Drive automation of accounting, reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and management reporting.

Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing finance team, embedding a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop SOPs, workflows, performance metrics, and training programs across the finance function.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and full member of ICPAK (mandatory).
  • Master’s degree, ACCA, CIA, or MBA will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years’ progressive experience in finance, with at least 3 years in a senior supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong background in financial services, fintech, digital lending, microfinance, banking, or regulated financial institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in statutory accounting, audit management, regulatory reporting, IFRS 9 provisioning, treasury management, and lender engagement.
  • Proven track record in financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analytics.
  • Advanced Excel and accounting systems expertise; familiarity with BI and analytics tools is a strong advantage.
  • High integrity, commercial acumen, and strong executive communication skills.
