Export Development Manager Job
- The position is responsible for expanding company’s sales and operations into regional and international markets.
- The role involves developing and implementing export strategies, identifying new business opportunities, managing relationships with clients, and ensuring compliance with export regulations.
- The candidate reports to General Manager, Sales.
Main Responsibilities
Market Analysis and Strategy:
- Developing and implementing export strategies aligned with company goals and objectives.
- Analysing market trends and customer needs to identify growth opportunities.
- Asses potential of different regional/international markets.
Business Development and Sales:
- Identifying and prospecting new Regional / international clients.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with identified distributors, agents, and partners.
- Negotiating contracts and terms with potential buyers.
- Managing the sales process from initial contact to order fulfilment.
Operations and Logistics:
- Coordinating with internal teams (sales, marketing, logistics, etc.) to ensure smooth export operations.
- Managing export documentation, including invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading.
- Ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and customs procedures.
- Overseeing shipping logistics and freight forwarding.
Relationship Management:
- Acting as the primary point of contact for international customers.
- Addressing customer inquiries and resolving any issues related to export operations.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Monitoring and analysing export performance metrics.
- Providing regular sales reports and performance analysis to senior management.
- Identifying areas for improvement and recommending strategies for growth.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration (Marketing option) or a related field, or
- Diploma in Marketing or a related field with 10 years’ experience.
Experience
At least 10 years’ experience in Export Markets management in a busy FMCG environment.
Technical Competencies:
- Ability to undertake the core export marketing activities of strategy, brand positioning, planning, promotions management and new product development, digital media, advertising development and clear understanding of the targeted markets to enable company compete favourably in terms of pricing, product range and quality.
- Proficiency in MS Packages, project management tools, brand tracking tools (e.g. – PowerPoint, Excel, Word, MS Project, etc.).
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (product labelling, brand protection, consumer protection, etc.).
- Conversant with marketing agency operations.
- Proven work experience in export markets in Africa.
- Clear understanding of import tariffs, duties, taxes, VAT, etc.
- Clear understanding of each Country Regulatory Standards (like KEBS), specifications and health requirement regimes in each market.
- Certifications requirements.
- Product packing requirements e.g. gross weight, net weight and specifications to be put on the cartons or outer packing.
- Understand exchange control issues in each Country and recommend appropriate payment regime.
- Conversant with ISO 9001:2008/2015, FSMS & FSSC, OHS, EMS, ILS
