Role Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, mission-driven leader to guide Alive and Kicking in its next phase of growth and impact. The Country Manager will be responsible for overall organizational leadership, team management, business development, and ensuring delivery of our social and commercial objectives. The ideal candidate will be passionate about ethical manufacturing, community development, and growing a sustainable, values-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide overall leadership and direction aligned with Alive and Kicking’s mission.
  • Collaborate with the Board to shape and implement the strategic plan.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage day-to-day operations with a focus on efficiency, team coordination, and quality.
  • Ensure the production process remains cost-effective and mission-aligned.

Financial Oversight and Compliance

  • Manage the organisation’s budget, financial planning and reporting to ensure financial sustainability and growth
  • Oversee the organisation’s fiscal activity including budgeting, reporting and auditing in collaboration with the Finance team.
  • Ensure compliance with key legal and operational standards.

Business Development & Sales

  • Lead initiatives to increase sales of sports balls through various distribution and sales channels.
  • Explore new markets and grow our brand visibility regionally.

Fundraising & Partnerships

  • Maintain relationships with existing donors and explore new funding sources.
  • Seek strategic partnerships to enhance the organization’s reach and sustainability.
  • Ensure successful implementation of funded programs

Team & Culture

  • Build and lead a capable, motivated team.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and integrity.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including retailers, donors, corporate organizations, government agencies, suppliers and the community.
  • Represent Alive and Kicking at all relevant forums, maintaining strategic relationships, building alliances and partnership to promote the organization.
  • Lead negotiation of collective bargaining agreement and union management.Program development and quality assurance
  • Oversee development and implementation of programs and initiatives that align with the organization’s mission.
  • Oversee quality procedures to ensure Alive and Kicking’s quality standards are always maintained.

Governance and compliance

  • Ensure the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements including Corporate governance practices and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Coordinate periodic Board meetings in collaboration with the Board Chair and ensure timely communication to keep the Board informed and engaged.

Sustainability

  • Drive initiatives to reduce Alive and Kicking’s carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices.
  • Ensure that all business activities align with the social mission of the organization, balancing financial performance and social impact.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit, social enterprise or SME sector.
  • Proven experience in sales and fundraising, with a strong track record of driving revenue growth.
  • Demonstrated ability in team management.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience working with community-led initiatives or ethical manufacturing.
  • Exposure to East African markets or donor-funded programs.
