Church and Bible Engagement Officer NGO Job

Working Hours: Part-time (18.75 hrs/week); Initial 18-month fixed contract
Responsible To: Director of Church Relations
Job Grade: D
Location: Home-based, or at a UBS Hub, by agreement
Time Zone: Preferably (GMT +/- 5)

This role involves supporting the Church Relations and Bible Engagement teams through research around Bible engagement projects in the UBS Fellowship; maintaining and updating the Bible Engagement Repository on the UBS Community Resource page, ensuring it is a useful tool for Bible Societies; working with the Director of Church Relations to update the Church Relations training programmes; assist in the administration of email lists and WhatsApp groups that relate to Church Relations and Bible Engagement; assisting the Director of Church Relations in the development of Church Relations strategies for the various affinity groups in the UBS Fellowship; scheduling and keeping notes of meetings between Church Relations and (i) Relationship Managers and (ii) Integrated Bible Ministry teams.

  • To improve and expand our existing approaches to collecting and communicating stories about Church Relations and Bible Engagement across the Fellowship, paying special attention to how they positively impact the integrity/trustworthiness and sustainability of Bible Societies.To work with the Director of Church Relations and the Integrated Bible Ministry team to develop strategies for Church engagement for the different ecclesial traditions.
  • To support the Director of Church Relations and the Integrated Bible Ministry team in their communication with Relationship Managers to ensure comprehensive and holistic services are delivered to Bible Societies.
  • To work with the Director of Church Relations to update and enhance the Church Relations resources for the UBS Community webpage and for in-person workshops.
  • To work with the relevant teams in GMT to ensure the Bible Engagement Repository is up-to-date and is a useful tool for Bible Societies.
  • To work with the Relationship Managers and the Communications teams to identify stories of Church and Bible engagement that should be shared across the UBS Fellowship or with external partners.
  • To assist the Director of Church Relations to keep track of major church events, conferences, and Bible Society gatherings that impact the work of the UBS Fellowship or its partners.

The successful candidate will have the following qualities and skills. In some cases, follow-up training will be offered by UBS and the candidate is expected to attend workshops or other learning events.

Personal Qualities:

  • Comfortable working in a Christian organisation with sensitivity to the breadth of church support that UBS enjoys.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to diverse audiences.
  • An ability to work collaboratively and across cultures; a good listener with an ability to explain complex matters simply.
  • Self-motivated, with enough personal confidence to be open to continuous learning and development.

Essential Experiences and Skills:

  • A degree or higher-level certificate with a focus on administration or similarly relevant field. Knowledge or training in Theology or Church History is an added advantage.
  • A creative, curious mind with the confidence to challenge assumptions
  • Proven ability to craft clear, compelling and inspiring stories and to explain why they matter
  • Proven ability to work with productivity and collaborative tools such as Google Workspace .
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience of working across cultures and with different ecclesial traditions
  • Experience in working within a global, dispersed team
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Willingness to travel occasionally

Desirable Experiences and Skills:

  • Experience of working in the not-for-profit sector
  • Knowledge of French, Spanish or other global language
