The Agronomist will be responsible for leading and optimizing all crop production practices to ensure Zuri Prime Farms consistently delivers premium-quality herbs cultivated to the highest organic standards. The role is responsible for maximizing yield, maintaining zero-residue integrity, and ensuring full alignment with export requirements to EU, UK, the Middle East and other markets. The role will combine strong technical expertise with disciplined field execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement agronomic plans that ensure optimal herb growth, yield consistency, and premium export quality across greenhouse and open-field systems.
- Design and enforce strict organic farming protocols, including soil fertility programs, composting systems, biological pest control, and residue-free crop protection strategies.
- Lead soil analysis programs, nutrient management planning, irrigation calibration, and continuous soil improvement initiatives to enhance productivity sustainably.
- Establish proactive monitoring systems and integrated pest management programs that prevent crop losses while maintaining full compliance with organic and export standards.
- Monitor crop performance metrics, conduct field inspections, and implement corrective actions to maintain consistent size, aroma, shelf life, and visual standards required by international buyers.
- Ensure full adherence to Global GAP and other export-related standards, maintaining proper documentation, traceability systems, and audit readiness at all times.
- Evaluate new herb varieties, trial improved cultivation techniques, and introduce innovations that enhance efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
- Provide technical leadership to farm supervisors and field teams, ensuring agronomic best practices are understood, implemented, and continuously improved.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Agronomy, Horticulture, or Agricultural Science
- Postgraduate qualification is an advantage
- Formal training or certification in organic production systems
- Working knowledge of Global GAP standards (mandatory)
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of agronomic experience in organic herb or vegetable production
- Proven experience working with a Kenyan herb, vegetable, or fruit export company, with clear understanding of export compliance standards
- Demonstrated experience implementing integrated pest management and soil health improvement programs
- Experience working in greenhouse and open-field systems

- Exceptional attention to detail and discipline in execution
- Deep understanding of organic systems and sustainable agriculture principles
- High level of accountability and ownership
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to train and guide farm teams
- Efficient, process-oriented, and able to prioritize under pressure
- Comfortable using farm management software and data analysis tools
