Accountant Job

The Accountant is responsible for all the Accounting Processes that mainly involve maintenance of accurate financial records, auditing financial documents and procedures, compiling, analysing and presenting financial data. 

The Office is also responsible for creating periodic reports as may be required by the finance and controlling office.

Accounts Receivable

  • Follow up collections from allocated clients.
  • Follow up delivery documents and waybill availability.

Expense Management

  • Expense Reports – Account for employee refunds incurred during company related travel.
  • Cash Advances – Account for all cash advances in the ERP system and ensure reconciliation of these advances is accurate.

Bank Management

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations as per the department deadlines.

Tax

  • Account for WHT on vendors – Including Ug Consultancy and WHT on IHC Interest
  • Research and keep up with the changing Tax landscape, giving guidance while ensuring that all new laws affecting our operations are implemented in a timely and efficient manner

HS codes verification for Inventory

  • VAT Codes verification and allocation to all inventory items and ensuring accurate sales tax declarations
  • VAT checking, computation and filing according to the KRA guidelines
  • Computation, verification and filing of monthly WHT obligations
  • Computation, verification and filing of monthly WHVAT obligations
  • Ensuring compliance with local tax laws through conducting regular reviews of financial records
  • Implementation of Etims, including follow up on down times occasioned by KRA systems and our service providers.
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax authorities during audits or inquiries.
  • Support month end and year end processes related to tax accounting
  • Transfer pricing policy coordination together with the senior accountant, to ensure all international tax laws relating to intercompany transactions are tracked month on month.
  • Support the financial controller in Transfer Pricing Policy creation, review and filing in line with the statutory deadlines.
  • In charge of all intercompany transactions, ensuring their accuracy and tax compliance.

Other Functions

To ensure Licensing documentation is always up to date in – collaboration with Admin.

  • Statutory audit support
  • Participate in stock counts.
  • Support PPC and FC with relevant information
  • Accounting for Accrued Expenses
  • Month end processes – Prepayment expensing, accruals, depreciation and fixed asset management.

Inventory Management

  • Invoicing of Inventory related invoices
  • Reconciliation of third-party charges related to inventory and freight charges.
  • Costing and charging back the charges attributable to stocks to determine the landed cost of products
  • Ensuring proper charging of import related charges – i.e. clearance costs, duties and freights

Sustainability Management

  • Review & Validate data collection request from Sustainability reporting expert & ensure that gathering and validating process are running as per audit and corporate requirements
  • Inform data creator to perform manual data collection based on information provided from Sustainability reporting expert
  • Consolidate collected data across the area of responsibility and drive minimum required number of samples check to access data quality based on standard knowledge
  • Support nomination and coordinate all relevant local roles (Local Data validator & local data creator).
  • Supervision of reporting process to ensure deadlines are respected and completeness of data delivery by the local data/creator is fulfilled
  • Participates in the regular sustainability network calls, activities and trainings and accountable for minimum CSRD reporting knowledge
  • Ensure proper communication with data creator, validator, corporate sustainability reporting and controlling
  • Close collaboration with data validators, who possess subject matter expertise to ensure data accuracy
  • Key coordinator to ensure escalation process is initiated

Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field is essential.
  • CPA(K) (Certified Public Accountant of Kenya)

Experience Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in accounting, tax compliance, import and export processes and inventory management
  • Experience in multinational environments tax scope
  • At least 1 year experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP system is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) systems, tax compliance and EPZ tax processes is crucial.
  • Experience with sustainability audits, ESG reporting, and stakeholder engagement 
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Proficient in month-end/year-end close processes and audit support
  • Familiarity with month-end/year-end close processes and audit support
  • Strong knowledge of inventory valuation methods (e.g., FIFO, weighted average)

  • Knowledge of local and international tax regulations
  • Understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks and reporting standards
  • Ability to perform inventory reconciliations, cost of goods sold (COGS) tracking, and variance analysis
  • Understanding of IFRS principles and standards and ability to interpret IFRS-compliant financial statements
