Role Overview
The Accountant (Head of Finance) will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure robust financial governance, and deliver high-quality financial reporting and insights to support executive decision-making.
This role will work closely with the Managing Director, Board, and senior leadership to drive financial sustainability, liquidity management, regulatory compliance, and performance optimization within a dynamic fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date books of accounts in line with IFRS and internal
- financial controls, ensuring data integrity across systems.
- Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) with clear
- commentary on performance, trends, and key variances.
- Perform timely reconciliations for bank accounts, mobile money wallets, and loan
- systems, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records.
- Accurately record and reconcile loan transactions including disbursements, repayments,
- interest income, fees, penalties, and recoveries within the digital lending platform.
- Prepare finance inputs for Board packs, dashboards, and management reports,
- supporting data-driven decision-making.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, providing insights to guide
- business performance and cost optimization.
- Prepare and file statutory returns including PAYE, VAT (where applicable), Withholding
- Tax, NSSF, and SHIF, ensuring full compliance with Kenyan tax regulations.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements in line with Digital Credit Providers
- Regulations and other applicable financial services frameworks.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity position, and supplier payments, ensuring efficient working capital management.
- Support implementation and strengthening of internal controls, audit
- processes, and continuous improvement of finance systems and
- reporting structures.
Qualifications, Experience & Key Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA (K) – Completed (Mandatory).
- 3–5 years’ experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience in fintech, digital lending, microfinance, SACCOs, or regulated financial
- institutions is highly preferred.
- Experience working with accounting systems, ERP platforms, and loan management systems.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and advanced Excel skills.
- Solid understanding of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
- Good grasp of Kenyan statutory requirements and tax compliance.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
