How John Found His Dream Role Through One of Our LinkedIn Posts

We have all heard the saying that looking for a job is a full-time job itself, well for John, it became an exhausting cycle. He had sent out several applications that led nowhere. For 8 months, he had sent out many applications trough the commonly known Kenyan job boards. He only got rejection and silence.
Fresh out of a toxic work environment, with over 5 years of experience, John had all the qualifications on paper. But when it came to reality, he was starting to feel invisible. His days started to become a monotonous routine of sending out applications and editing his career profile.
“I started questioning everything,” John said during our interview.
Then something shifted. A friend of mine suggested that I stop relying heavily on traditional job boards. So, I started scrolling LinkedIn to better my chances. It really paid off. I came through a Corporate Staffing post one day with bold letters WE ARE HIRING! I took my chances and applied. The rest is history.
- What was the turning point that made you change your approach to job searching?
I was tired of hearing the word NO. John explained I realized I was not treating LinkedIn like a digital job site. I was there to seem professional. So, I started to use every tool in my shed to double my chances of getting that job.
The breakthrough came after I spoke to a friend of mine, who sent me Corporate Staffing LinkedIn. I applied for several positions and they have so many jobs. I started to only apply to the ones I qualified for.
2. Now that you’re on the other side, what’s the biggest lesson from this whole journey?
I would say that the right opportunity will find you if you position yourself. I used to think that LinkedIn was just for posting motivational quotes and congratulating people for their new roles.
But I came to know that it is a very powerful tool when you use it properly.
3. What would you say to someone who’s in the same position you were?
To keep going. I almost lost hope. I almost gave up after a few applications, but I didn’t. Also, invest in yourself. If you want to upskill, then go ahead and upgrade your skills. Networking properly on LinkedIn, or getting your CV professionally done. Put yourself first.
And lastly, take care of yourself. This job search thing can drain you. It’s okay to take breaks. Also make sure your CV is perfect before applying. That can make or break you.
