My Journey Leading with Purpose and Empowering Team for Success
Godfrey Wakoli is the head of recruitment, training and development at Corporate Staffing Services and his journey in leading effectively has been defined by his dedication to empowering the team members to excel.
Among his roles as a leader is to take care of the people who take care of the business. He offers full support to team members by ensuring that they have the resources they need and are enabled to do what they are supposed to do.

I was curious to learn about his journey and the factors that shaped him into a leader.
“I have embraced leadership positions since my school days, where I developed the ability to guide and inspire others. In the workplace, I prioritize clear and intentional communication, ensuring my voice is heard and my contributions are meaningful during meetings. I understand the focus of the business, and providing solutions”
According to him, the journey has never been easy because sometimes his decisions are not popular, or the disagreement could arise between him and those above him but he has remained committed to finding common ground and driving positive change.
His journey has taught him invaluable lessons about leadership and from his perspective, here is the secret to succeeding and creating an inclusive team culture as a leader” Be patient with the people you lead, and empower them. Yes, it may take time but train them and make them know what is expected of them. Have meaningful discussions outside the normal conversation, know them at a personal level and also talk about their work. When selecting a candidate for a specific role, pay attention to culture fitness and how they fit in the team.”
He creates a positive team culture by encouraging the team to have accountability partners where they give each other feedback and he also provides feedback on their strengths and the areas of improvement.
His advice to anyone starting their leadership journey is to remember that nobody tells you what lies ahead of you. It is an uncomfortable place; people may not be comfortable speaking around you but it is important to invest in yourself. Learn, unlearn, and relearn and be more sensitive to other people’s issues, and also the business needs because you double up as a leader and second parent.
If you want to lead effectively, take time to understand your team members and listen actively to their needs, motivations, and challenges so that you can create a supportive environment.
With that in mind if you are in a leadership position or you are an aspiring leader, embrace the opportunities to sharpen your skills and broaden your perspective. Effective leadership is a journey, and the steps you take today prepare you for success tomorrow therefore sharpen your skills through our leadership training and position yourself as a great leader.
